Ava DuVernay's New Gods movie may not be moving forward, but the filmmaker has another DC project on the way: a small-screen adaptation of recent DC Comics series, Naomi.

Production began on the CW series last month, and we found out that the show was given an official series order late last night. Now, DuVernay has taken to Twitter to share some new production stills of star Kaci Walfall (Power) as the titular teenage hero.

We recently learned that the first episode of Naomi might just feature a cameo from a very famous DC superhero, but that's yet to be confirmed.

DuVernay teamed with Arrow writer and co-exec producer Jill Blankenship to write and exec produce the project, which is based on the 2019 teen superhero tale of the same name from writers Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and artist Jamal Campbell.

The comic follows Naomi McDuffie, a teenage superhero from an alternate Earth with energy-based powers who discovers that she was sent to the Prime Universe to be preserved from Zumbado, the destructive conqueror of her home planet. The show is expected to focus on "a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes."

Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes are also on board as producers. No premiere date has been announced.

I have high hopes for this series. If it's half as good as Superman and Lois then it's gonna be great. I'm not familiar with the comics but it seems interesting.

@nibs -
Superman & Lois is great. Easily the best thing on the CW.

I like the character but I hope they make some slight changes because Bendis made her pretty annoying with this insecure teenage talk.

Still, her story went on for only six issues (then she joined the JL), so Ava must've had some new exciting story ideas.

@UXASIS - knowing the cw they might make that stuff worse. But you never know. We might get another stargirl out of this.

Glad to see they're making new characters...but really? A TV show for a character that didn't exist two weeks ago? Nothing for the dozens of beloved characters that still haven't been able to break into the small screen but have generations of fans? Ok...

@Waddles - BRUH you could not have said that better. That truly is the conundrum with CW/DC properties
