Anya Taylor-Joy is a pitch-perfect casting pick for the role of Princess Peach in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated movie, and the Last Night in Soho star has now shared her excitement for the film.

After a memorable turn as Magik in the otherwise forgettable The New Mutants movie, the sky has been the limit for Anya Taylor-Joy. Hot on the heels of Netflix's The Queen's Gambit, she's currently doing the rounds to promote Edgar Wright's critically acclaimed Last Night in Soho, and will soon take the lead as a younger Furiosa in George Miller's Mad Mad: Fury Road prequel.

During a recent red carpet appearance, Joy was asked about lending her voice to Princess Peach in Super Mario Bros., and it's clearly a role the actress has enjoyed taking a deep dive into.

"Oh, it is so much fun. We've started doing little bits and pieces already, but the greatest part is that I get to say I'm doing work or research just by gaming. [That's] pretty great," she admitted. When the interviewer asked if she's getting into the games, Joy added: "I have to. The fanbase is so intense, of course I have to do it. And it's so much fun."

Only the voice cast has been revealed thus far, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong among the leads. The title and animation style remain under wraps, but Joy would actually make a pretty perfect Peach in live-action, so something tells us she stands a chance of stealing the show here.

Playing the games is definitely a good place to start in terms of research, and the fact that some lines have already been recorded could be an indication that a trailer is coming sooner rather than later.

I'm a huge fan of Mario too (and also of that dress), but I got no excitement for this.

Illumination movies feel so uninterested in nothing else but having a star cast, that my expectations are really low.

That guys eye contact game is strong, I'd be awful at it on the red carpet.

"Must not stare, eyes are watering, may be going blind"

Anyway here's a pic of Anya

will never understand the need to blow budget on stars to voice over characters that look nothing like them. i like chris prat but him voicing mario stil wont make me see this

The all star cast is giving me Shark Tale vibes, and no that's not a good thing.

Pixar may have some stars at times but normally they cast character actors that embody the character they play as opposed to a recognizable voice that will distract audiences and remind them of who is voicing the characters on screen.

Mario is maybe the biggest name in video games, it sells itself.

I'd rather the Lou Albano Mario over the Charles Andre Martinet one.
