New Line's Mortal Kombat reboot has found its first fighter.

According to THR, Indonesian actor/martial artist Joe Taslim (The Raid, The Night Comes For Us) has signed on to play Sub-Zero, the highly skilled warrior with ice-based powers who is the sworn enemy of Scorpion.

Plot details on the new movie remain a mystery for now, but it's assumed that it'll follow the basic premise of the original video game: a group of warriors assemble to compete in a tournament to protect the Earth from the demonic forces of Outworld.

Aquaman director James Wan will produce via his Atomic Monster banner, while veteran commercial director Simon McQuoid will make his feature debut. Todd Garner will also produce, along with Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear and Sean Robins.

Mortal Kombat is set to commence production in South Australia later this year.
