We suspected a trailer might be imminent when the first official images were released around this time last month, and Warner Brothers. has now announced that we'll get a first look at the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot on Thursday.

In anticipation, a new motion poster for the R-rated video game adaptation has been shared online. Those stills featured Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) with his mask obscured, but here we finally get a proper look at the fan-favourite warrior as he prepares to wield his ice-sword into battle.

This is most likely just the first in a series of character banners, so keep an eye out for updates.

And the next one has already been released! Here's Josh Lawson as Kano.

The introduction of a main character who's never featured in the games has not gone down very well with fans, especially since Cole's (Lewis Tan) backstory and motivation seem so similar to Johnny Cage's. That aside, director Simon McQuoid's adaptation does seem to be sticking pretty close to the game's established mythology, and it's already been confirmed that we will see some fatalities.

In “Mortal Kombat,” MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?

Mortal Kombat is set for a simultaneous release in theaters and on HBO Max this April 12.

@TheMapleSyrup - Yeah! I don't care if the movie is good or bad (hoping it's good, though), but they are doing the characters a lot of justice. I was thinking they would ruin it by miscasting a lot of characters, but I guess not.

@TheMapleSyrup - I dunno it looks more like a high quality shot from a pro cosplayer. Hope its good, but not holding my breath as this was supposed to come out in January AKA the month where studios drop their worst films.

I'm still not comfortable with them veering attention away from the mainstay characters to focus on Lewis Tan.

It just screams Paul W.S Anderson's Resident Evil. Let's hope it's not too extreme.

Sub-Zero is the only character that looks right imo.

I'll be the first to say this movie looks severely underwhelming. I feel like the first film based on the game will be the definitive of the movies once again. I cannot get behind this Sub-Zero and I am a big Bi-Han fan and they are treating him like Noob Saibot. Bi-Han was never a spectre or servant of anyone until he became Noob Saibot.

@SonOfAGif - This is the studio that constantly ruined Superman. You think they care?

@SnideCut - Not at all and that's what disappointed me the most about it. The fact that Walter Hamada is greenlighting these projects and hiring yes men instead of passionate writers and directors who love the lore. For the slack people give the MCU you can tell each film has heart and a cast and crew who love the source material. Hamada just wants these projects pumped out no matter how trash they are.
