Nearly three years after it was first reported to be in the works, Ubisoft's movie adaptation of its popular video game
Tom Clancy's The Division finally has a home. Announced on stage at E3 today,
The Division movie will be released on Netflix.
No release date was announced, but we did get confirmation that both Jake Gyllenhall and Jessica Chastain will star in (and produce) the film with David Leitch (
Deadpool 2,
Hobbs & Shaw) in the director's chair. Rafe Judkins is adapting the screenplay based on the video game of the same name.
The synopsis reads:
In the near future, a pandemic virus is spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains.
Released in 2016,
Tom Clancy's The Division became the fastest-selling new IP in video game history. A sequel, The Division 2, launched in March of this year, taking the action from New York City to Washington D.C., where players are tasked with restoring order after the pandemic.
