UNCHARTED: Action-Packed First Trailer Puts A Fresh Spin On The Iconic PlayStation Video Game Franchise

Sony Pictures has dropped the first trailer for Uncharted, and while the movie is clearly set to put a fresh spin on the franchise, this sneak peek definitely recaptures some of the magic from the games.

The first trailer for Uncharted has been released, and we're actually impressed by what a great job the movie appears to be doing of recapturing the spirit of the hit PlayStation franchise.

It's clear now that this is a total reimagining as this sneak peek reveals everything from Nathan Drake's first meeting with Victor "Sully" Sullivan to the quest for his missing brother, Sam. None of that really lines up with what we know from the games, but a fresh take on the material is certainly no bad thing.

Still, whether it's the over-the-top action or Nate saying "Oh, crap!" as he's flung out of a plane, there's a lot here that fans should appreciate.

We've known from the start that this movie wouldn't be a straightforward adaptation of the games (or a prequel), but a real effort has been made to do the Naughty Dog series justice. That's extremely important, and a much better idea than reinventing this property from the ground up. Hopefully, Uncharted can add to the mythos in a big way, especially with no more games on the horizon.

Check out the action-packed trailer (and the first synopsis) for Uncharted below:

Based on one of the best-selling, most critically acclaimed video game series of all time, Uncharted introduces audiences to the young street-smart Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) and showcases his first treasure hunting adventure with wisecracking partner Victor "Sully" Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). In an action-adventure epic that spans the globe, the two go in dangerous pursuit of "the greatest treasure never found" while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Rafe Judkins and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, the movie stars Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas.

Uncharted is set to arrive in theaters on February 18. In the UK, it arrives a little sooner on February 11.
