VIDEO GAMES: Insomniac Games Discusses The Importance Of MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN PS4 Game

The Spider-Man we see in Insonmiac's PS4 game is unlike any we've ever met or seen before, but he's still one of the world's most important and iconic Super Heroes. The developers explain why in this vid.

Sony's annual PlayStation Experience was in full swing this weekend, highlighting many of the exciting games coming to PlayStation consoles in the coming months. One of those games is Marvel's Spider-Man, a blockbuster action-adventure game "where Peter Parker and Spider-Man's worlds collide" on PlayStation 4.

In a new behind-the-scenes video for the game debuted at PSX, developer Insomniac Games discusses the importance of Marvel's Spider-Man, and how he is different than superhero characters that came before him.

"He wasn't like some billionaire playboy. He wasn't some alien from another planet. He was that guy down the block," explains writer Dan Slott in the video. One of the key aspects the developers are trying to capture through the game is Peter Parker's relatable nature, which the developer explains is what helps raise the stakes when he's fighting as Spider-Man.

"Every great Spider-Man story is also Peter Parker's story. One of the most beloved characters around the world. He is us," says BIll Roseman, Executive Creative Director of Marvel Games.

"When you grown up everybody feels like they're picked on. Everybody feels like no one understands them. That was Spider-Man," Slott adds. "He wants to go on that date, but 'Oh no, there's Electro. Oh no, there's Rhino. Oh no, there's the bank robbery."

It's when you understand his struggle of balancing his personal life with his role as a superhero, Roseman says, is when the stakes are raised when he's fighting these foes because "you know what he's fighting for."

Speaking of foes, the video also highlights the game's main villain, Martin Lee, aka Mr. Negative. The developers discuss how they are exploring the "dark side" of Martin Lee and how Peter Parker struggles with the conundrum of bringing down this iconic neighborhood figure.

We've already seen exciting gameplay from Marvel's Spider-Man, so take a look at the video below to see how the intriguing backstory compliments it.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, Insomniac Games, and Marvel have teamed up to create a brand-new and authentic Spider-Man adventure. This isn’t the Spider-Man you’ve met or ever seen before. This is an experienced Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time, he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of millions of New Yorkers rest upon his shoulders.

Marvel's Spider-Man swings onto PlayStation 4 sometime in 2018.
