VIDEO GAMES: MARVEL'S IRON MAN VR Takes Flight On PlayStation VR In February 2020; New Story Trailer Released

A new story trailer for Marvel's Iron Man VR reveals the release date for the PlayStation VR title as well as the main antagonist in the game — the villainous hacker Ghost, a longtime foe of Tony Stark.

New York Comic-Con continues to provide us with updates on all the upcoming Marvel games, the latest being Sony's Iron Man VR. It was announced that the upcoming virtual reality title, which thrusts you into the suit of Tony Stark on a heroic mission to save the world, will release on February 28 exclusively for PlayStation VR.

In addition to the release date, a new story trailer was released, revealing the villainous Ghost as the game's primary antaonist. First appearing in Iron Man #219, Ghost is one of Iron Man's most classic super foes, with the villainous hacker challenging Tony Stark throughout multiple story arcs. And now she'll do so in Marvel's Iron Man VR.

Tony Stark has retired from making weapons and instead creates technology used to battle evil as Iron Man. After several years as a world-famous Super Hero, Tony is attacked by the mysterious Ghost, a hacker and anti-corporate activist who repurposes old Stark Industries weapons. In her efforts to topple his empire, Ghost attacks Stark’s corporate locations around the world, leading to ever-escalating stakes and a final showdown.

"In our game, Ghost is a great foil for Tony Stark—she not only holds a grudge against our hero, but holds a mirror up to him. As a witness to the damage caused by Stark-made weapons years earlier, Ghost’s fight against Iron Man is both ideological and personal. Because of Ghost, our complex and fascinating hero must reconcile his troubled past, both on and off the battlefield," explained lead writer Brendan Murphy.

He continued: "With Marvel’s Iron Man VR, we approached our big story moments with humor, heart, and suspense—attributes that map perfectly with Tony Stark. Given the fact that the game is built from the ground up for VR, we doubled down on the storytelling strengths of virtual reality. This means putting the player in the shoes of Tony Stark—literally—as players embody Tony, interact with the world, choose some dialogue beats, and live his life in and out of the armor. Lastly, we sought to leverage the sense of presence in VR by populating the game with iconic Marvel characters to interact with."

Although Marvel's Iron Man VR was developed by Camouflaj, the studio teamed up with Marvel Games creative director Bill Rosemann when crafting the narrative. Famed Marvel writer Christos Gage also helped sprinkle in "some fun 'Marvel-ness' into the script," revealed Murphy.
