Wanted Sequel Is A Go, Writers On Board
The Wrap report that the writing duo from Timur Bekmambetov's first Wanted have been hired to pen a sequel. We also get a very rough idea of the story the sequel will follow..
It seems a sequel to the loose adaptation of Mark Millar's controversial comic series is definitely in the works as the original movie's screenwriters are on board.
From The Wrap..
The studio has hired Michael Brandt and Derek Haas to write "Wanted 2," Haas told TheWrap Tuesday -- and tweeted.
"We just always loved the 'Wanted' world and loved working with Universal and (director) Timur (Bekmambetov) on the first one, so we're excited."
"Wanted 2" is "going to take off after the events of what just happened," Haas said. "Pick up Wesley a few years later and go back in for another round."
No word on whether the original cast or director will return. Hass says that while he would love to work with Bekmambatov again, he is "a busy guy". James McAvoy played Wesley in the first movie which bore almost no relation beyond character names and basic premise to the Mark Millar comic of the same name. Angelina Jolie played the female lead and was rumored to be sought by Universal to return for the sequel despite literally having her head blown off at the end of the first movie.
Personally I found both the movie and the comic to be pretty rubbish but for very different reasons. What do you guys think? Excited for Wanted 2?
