6 Wild WONDER WOMAN Story Predictions You Can Take To The Bank

With Wonder Woman right around the corner, we take a look at some pretty crazy predictions for the Amazon's long overdue solo movie which all stand a very good chance of becoming a reality in June!

Say what you will about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but Wonder Woman's introduction was a triumph for Warner Bros. Now, all eyes are on her solo outing being amazing, especially as the hope is that it will turn things around for female superheroes in regards to them getting their own movies. Should this release fail, it will be a blow to both the genre and further damages the DC Films Universe.

We're getting a little ahead of ourselves there, though, and we'll find out in just a few weeks how good Wonder Woman will be. In the meantime, we've decided to take a closer look at what might be to come in the movie. Set during the dark days of World War I, you may not think that the movie will have a particularly significant impact on this world, but it really could shape the future of this universe.

So, with that in mind, we've taken a look at everything we know so far about Wonder Woman (not to mention various rumours which have been doing the rounds) to come up with six wild predictions about what to expect from this movie. From character deaths to cameos and massive twists and turns that audiences won't see coming, even one of these coming true next month would be pretty HUGE...

6. Steve Trevor Dies

We need a good reason as to why Wonder Woman decided to hide from the world for so long and the death of the man she falls in love with makes perfect sense. A happily ever after ending just won't work for these two as Diana Prince heading to a cottage in the country with Steve Trevor just won't make for a conclusion which justifies why she kept her head down until Batman v Superman.

It is, of course, possible that seeing humanity at their worst during World War I will play a role in this decision, but something truly awful is going to have to happen to the Amazon warrior if Warner Bros. realistically hopes to convince us that she sat out conflicts like World War II, Vietnam, and Iraq. Steve's murder at the hands of Ares should be enough, especially as it will probably leave her in a place where she just can't fight anymore. However, there is another equally likely and shocking possibility...

Based on what we saw in Batman v Superman, it appears as if Wonder Woman decided to remain in the world of man after the war and took on the name Diana Prince to hide in the shadows. There are decades worth of history that future movies in this franchise could potentially explore before jumping ahead to the present day, but why didn't the hero just return home to Themyscira?

While the trailers have focused mostly on action set on the battlefield, I think it's possible that Ares will destroy her home or that Diana will return only to find that an unknown force has wiped out her mother and friends while she was away. That guilt would also be enough for her to essentially "punish" herself by living in our world and makes her an orphan of sorts, something which could explain why she later embraces becoming part of a new family in the form of the Justice League. There's precedent for this happening in the comic books too.

It was rumoured a long time ago that Wonder Woman would have some present-day bookends similar to those in Captain America: The First Avenger and Batman was mentioned as making a possible cameo appearance. At the time, it was said that he would be wating her fight from afar as he looked at candidates for the Justice League, but that's obviously not going to be the case based on what we've seen from that movie and Batman v Superman.

However, I do still think that the Dark Knight will pop up here even if it's just to hear Diana reveal her origin story before telling her that he needs her for the team he's putting together. That's something that perfectly sets up Justice League, and unlike his pretty much meaningless appearance at the end of Suicide Squad, it will give moviegoers a good reason to be excited for what's to come in that superhero ensemble thanks to a reunion between these heroes being promised.

3. Ares' Identity

Warner Bros. is very good at putting trailers together (that's how they've made trash like Jupiter Ascending and Pacific Rim look good), so the fact they've reused so much of the same footage for Wonder Woman previews is both surprising and a welcome relief. After all, no matter how terrible he ultimately looked, Doomsday should never have been shown off before the release of Batman v Superman!

As a result, Ares has been kept under wraps and while the prevailing theory is that Danny Huston's character is that villain in disguise, I don't think so. It just seems way too obvious, and while I'm cheating here a little as this has been rumoured, I think it will be David Thewlis' character who is secretly Ares. The villain being one of the "good guys" and manipulating the war from the side of the British rather than the Germans would be a neat twist and one the vast majority of moviegoers aren't going to see coming.

2. Ares Isn't The Only Olympian Who Shows Up

In "The New 52" reboot, Wonder Woman was shocked to learn that Zeus is her father, but the character quite nonchalantly revealed that to Steve Trevor in one of the first trailers for the movie. If you're at all familiar with that run, you'll know that the Amazon warrior crossed paths with a number of other Olympians and I definitely think it's possible we could see some of them here.

That might be in the form of an after-credits scene or just by having a supporting character revealed as being one of those ancient beings in disguise keeping watch over Diana, but I would be shocked if Ares is the only one we get here. Just like Marvel has exploited Norse mythology for the Thor franchise, Warner Bros. could do the same for Wonder Woman and the potential to set up countless adventures tied to the likes of Zeus and Prometheus should be obvious to them. We'll just have to wait and see if the studio has realised that!

1. Wonder Woman Wins The War

Up until now, this list of predictions has admittedly been quite bleak, but I do think that Wonder Woman will emerge from this movie with a big victory. As well as inevitably defeating Ares, I believe that the hero is going to be the one humanity has to thank for winning and ending the war. Of course, no one will ever know that, but Diana isn't the type to look for credit and will obviously want to avoid the public eye after facing potentially two tragedies here.

While director Patty Jenkins has talked about future movies taking place in the present, I can't help but think that we'll revisit the hero at various points in history, with World War II having a hell of a lot of potential if a fresh direction can be found which doesn't feel like a retread. It's also possible that this movie could set up the events of Justice League is the disappearance of the Amazons has something to do with them holding on to one of Darkseid's Mother Boxes.

If her home is destroyed it will again be a dark turn in a universe that has been nothing but dark. That would be a mistake.

Wonder Woman...like Thor...is a problematic character in that they are 'magical" and I don't think that non comic book audiences respond to that well. The more they stay away from that the better. That is why I think that Ares is such a bad choice as a villain.
