Will Diana Prince have a new love interest in the Wonder Woman sequel? That seems to be the takeaway from Patty Jenkins' recent interview, but now the director has responded to the "misunderstanding."

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, who is currently writing its sequel alongside Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham, has responded to headlines stemming from recent comments she made in an interview with Collider. More specifically, Jenkins teased "a great love story again," which sent the internet into a whirlwind of reactions, both positive and negative.

Looking to put to rest some of the speculation surrounding Diana Prince's possible love interest, Jenkins took to Twitter to set the record straight.

"Quite a few people, including this headline, seem to be completely misunderstanding or making some pretty false assumptions based on one of many vague quotes I made about something I can't say ANYTHING about. Just wait. ;)

But p.s. still enjoyed the article, and don't blame the writer for the assumptions that follow."

In fairness to Collider - and Jenkins seems to understand this - the assumption was made form a direct quote, and obviously the "love story" angle was the most intriguing aspect of what she said. For context, here's Jenkins' full original quote, so you can decide for yourself how to interpret what she said.

“It’s really still going to other values of hers, and a similar formula insofar as making a great, enjoyable fun movie but that ultimately in its third act turns some very big issues, and a very big experience that will aim to have slightly more weight and profundity than it has to have. Because that’s a formula that I really like, and I like the idea of taking somebody on a very solid, great journey but that arrives at a bigger question being answered. So it’s like that but because she is Wonder Woman and she’s here now and she’s fully developed, it’s got great fun from the start and great big superhero presence from the start, and is funny and a great love story again and a couple new unbelievable characters who I’m so excited about, who are very different than were in the last movie.”
Wonder Woman 2 is scheduled to release November 1, 2019.

She doesn’t need to be tied down to some love interest but if she DOES have one , I trust Patty will make it work properly.

@MagnusShadowX - A love interest is the least WB needs to worry about. They may have hurt Aquaman.

@SonOfAGif -

Go ahead. How have they hurt Aquaman?

@Battabing - Since Batman v. Superman each DCEU film has declined by at most $30 million opening weekend. Justice League opened less than Wonder Woman. Arguably the general audience is tired of the DCEU.

Aquaman may open less than Justice League and that is a problem considering it's the first live action film for the character.

@SonOfAGif -
Wonder Woman opened way less than BvS and destroyed it domestically.

If you build it well, they'll come.

I knew it, it's not a new love interest. Steve Trevor returns.

You know what is refreshing about Jenkins in the DCEU? Despite marking the most overall successful DCEU film so far?
She actually communicates with the public. Welcome to the 21st century to at least 1 person involved with the DCEU.

Matt Reeves you get a little prop too,

I don't see how she can top WW after RottenTomatoes named it the best CBM ever made.
