Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman script was a little weird. While it wasn't necessarily bad, it featured an excessive number of sexualised moments with the Amazon warrior and scenes which many fans were quick to dismiss as sexist and misogynistic. Those comments couldn't have come at a worse time for Whedon because it was around the same time his ex-wife was making some concerning claims.

At the world premiere of Avengers: Infinity War last night, Whedon was asked about the script and was quick to jump to its defence.  Saying that he "re-read the script after I heard there was a backlash," the Justice League reshoots director quickly added: "I think it’s great. People say that
it’s not woke enough. I think they’re not looking at the big picture. It’s easy to take one phrase out of context."

He's not wrong to be fair but there were a lot of rather alarming phrases in there so it's not like we're talking about just one or two. Throw in the fact that Whedon's Wonder Woman took place almost entirely from a male perspective (Steve Trevor's) and it probably wouldn't have been all that good.

"Not that I was the most woke individual that ever lived at that time ten years ago," Whedon concluded, "but I was in there swinging and the movie has integrity and the characters have integrity and I stand by it." So, there you have it! What do you think of the director's remarks? Sound off below.
