SPOILERS: WONDER WOMAN - 8 Rumors Which Ended Up Being Bullsh*t

With Wonder Woman now in theaters, we take a look at eight of the biggest rumours which have now been proven false. You're not going to believe how ridiculous - and believable - most of these were!

Rumours are always good fun, but can also be pretty frustrating. Take, for example, all those stories about Wonder Woman being a disaster. They were mostly interesting to read, but now that it's out and absolutely incredible, it's infuriating to think about the fact we were fooled by complete bullsh*t.

All of the rumours listed below fall into that category as we've gone through the archives to track down the eight biggest stories which were utter nonsense. From Ares' monstrous army and alliance with a villain who made it nowhere near the big screen to incorrect casting news and the movie's setting, these all make for shocking reading as we learn just how much info out there was false.

So, regardless of whether or not you've watched Wonder Woman, read on to find the eight biggest bullsh*t rumours and to see just how different the movie could have been if even one was accurate...

8. Ares' Plan And Batman v Superman Ties

As with pretty much every superhero movie, there were a lot of rumours doing the rounds about Wonder Woman's plot but this one was so far off what we got in the finished product that it now reads as bad fan-fiction. Heroic Hollywood claimed that the story would revolve around Ares and a blade he stole from the Amazons. Apparently, that artefact would be powerful enough to help him take over Olympus, but to activate it, he would have to start World War III.

The God of War would have ultimately been defeated, but Diana Prince's mission to track down the sword would have continued in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for some reason. While the "Godkiller" sword does factor into Wonder Woman, it's hard to imagine the movie being this different back in November 2015 when the rumour first surfaced.

The Invisible Jet was nowhere to be seen in Wonder Woman despite claims to the contrary and the reason we couldn't see it has nothing to do with it being invisible! Patty Jenkins has said that she would consider including it in the sequel, but many fans still expected it to show up in some form here. However, the closest Diana Prince comes to flying is in the final battle with Ares and the movie's final scene!

Regardless, one report from JoBlo claimed that we would get to "see" the Invisible Jet in action on the big screen when Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor left Themyscira for the first time. They did note that it wouldn't show up in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, though, so at least that much was right! Now, the prevailing fan theory is that Diana will get a jet with cloaking abilities from Batman in Justice League.

6. Batman's Cameo

So many different sites reported that Batman would appear in Wonder Woman that I can't even figure out who to pin this rumour on! The general gist, though, is that the Caped Crusader would make a cameo appearance watching the Amazon warrior from afar as she saved civilians from Ares' minions.

Why he would choose not to get involved is hard to say, but the belief was clearly that he was observing her as the Dark Knight looked to assemble a League of heroes. This was supposed to lead into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the plan was for Bruce Wayne to make himself known to Diana Prince in her solo movie before the credits rolled. The closest we got to a cameo from Batman here was a letter and Wayne Enterprises truck, so chances are a physical cameo was never seriously considered.

5. Eva Green Is Circe The Sorceress

Back in September 2015, it was reported by Heroic Hollywood that Sean Bean and Eva Green were being eyed for villainous roles in Wonder Woman. To be fair, it's entirely possible that both were among the many actors being considered for the movie, but there was one pretty significant piece of information here which we now know was way off base.

While the site correctly predicted/guessed that Ares would be the big bad, it was said that Green was up for the role of Circe, a sorceress who is one of Wonder Woman's oldest foes. As we now know, there was no sign of that character in the movie and the only female villain was the very human Doctor Poison. Honestly, it feels like this report was based on a lucky guess, just like Latino-Review's claims Suicide Squad star Scott Eastwood would show up as Steve Trevor!

4. A Present Day Setting

There were a lot of conflicting reports about when Wonder Woman would take place, but most sites seemed comfortable stating that a huge chunk of the movie would be set in the present day. It was Bleeding Cool that correctly reported that we'd be getting a World War I setting, though Heroic Hollywood would later attempt to one up them by stating that while some of the Amazon warrior's first big screen adventure would happen there, the second half of the movie would be firmly in the present.

We did get modern day bookends, but Wonder Woman is obviously very much a period movie so all that talk of flashbacks showing the titular hero defeating Ares in the past before his return to try and start World War III in the here and now were clearly way off base. It remains to be seen if reports that the sequel will head to WWII were accurate, of course.

3. Ares' Army Of Beasts

That rumour about Ares and Circe just wouldn't go away as it was later backed up by JoBlo. False information sent out to multiple sites or a sign that Wonder Woman went through some HUGE changes? Who knows, but this was reported late in 2015, so I find it hard to imagine it changing all that much! Anyway, it was claimed that we would see a number of mythological and mystical creatures in the movie and that Ares would actually have an army of demonic red and green monsters with horns and wings that he would send to stop Wonder Woman.

However, the God of War was just pulling the strings and the real big bad would be Circe, a sorcerer with the power to turn men into beasts. In fact, she was supposed to transform into a "Chimera-like monster" during her final battle with Wonder Woman! Literally none of this ended up finding its way into the movie, so who knows where the information originated from.

2. Warring Amazons

Bleeding Cool may have been correct when they reported that Wonder Woman would be a World War I adventure, but there was a fair bit in that same report which was pretty far off what the final product ended up delivering. For starters, they countered claims that Wonder Woman would be half WWI/half present day by stating that the plan was for a chunk of the movie to be set on Themyscira with "warring Amazon factions vying for control."

That would have been pretty cool to be fair, but sounds like a very different sort of story. The arrival of a man asking for help would have changed things for the Amazons, though, but the site teased the possibility that the person who arrives would not be Steve Trevor (a hint perhaps that the plan was for him to factor into Suicide Squad). So, complete nonsense then, but it made for interesting reading at the time!

1. Crazy Casting Rumours

Some rumours seem to come pretty much out of nowhere and this was one of them. According to a variety of websites, Kingsman: The Golden Circle star Taron Egerton had been cast as Lennox in Wonder Woman. For those of you unfamiliar with the character, he was revealed to be one of Zeus' children and the half-brother of Diana Prince during Brian Azzarrello's run at the start of The New 52.

This wasn't the only bit of incorrect casting news, though. Reports that Nicole Kidman had been chosen to play Queen Hippolyta proved to be way off, while we've already mentioned that Scott Eastwood making a cameo appearance as Steve Trevor were nowhere near accurate. This is to be expected with a movie like this one, but one report that was 100% spot on was Batman-News' reveal that David Thewlis would be revealed as the villainous Ares!

@SuperCat - I went yesterday to watch it a second time. I didn't catch the orgy after the first viewing. Not catching it after the 2nd viewing proved I was lied to by some sick individual. I was hoping to see WW power [frick]ing Steve Trevor. I now rate WW a 0/10 stars.
