Lol at how Mulan single handedly killed the PVOD model for these films
Kumkani

@tmp3 - I really don't think they should be so discouraged by Mulan. It's a remake of a film people have already seen before.

@Kumkani - yeah but most disney remakes do well, even Lion King which was literally the same movie, minus any of the heart
Kumkani

@dracula - That's a fair point.

@Kumkani - I think the high price point played a role too

@Kumkani - don't forget the controversies surrounding the film.

@tmp3 - it should be more like thanks Mulan for showing them what not to do for PVOD in the future.

It was a soulless remake.
There was already controversies which displeased both Chinese givt and the rest of the world.
There way of marketing and releasing it was flawed.

All other releases can learn from this.
Have a proper marketing scheme.
Have a pay per view system available for 2months then off the service for 4-6months before releasing it for single purchase with extra goodies to watch on your service.

@heyy1 - like how a rental was 30 on top of the D+ sub entry fee but then they released it on 3rd party digital stores that allowed you to "own" the film, you mean that fiasco ?
heyy1
heyy1 - 11/3/2020, 4:22 PM
@hazapez - It was a mess pricing-wise, reception-wise and PR-wise.

Thank you Mulan, for showing the world that besides being a crap movie, the idea of releasing big movies straight to streaming will never happen.
dracula
dracula - 11/3/2020, 1:24 AM
@LameLuka - Well unless they are going to push all 2021 releases to 2022 and have the 2020 films take there place, they are all going to have lower box office hauls, no way people are going to watch 2 years worth of releases

Been watching a lot of John Hughs on HBOMax.
Strangely last year I rewatched Home Alone on Disney+, and felt it didn't hold up, and actually liked it more this time. Home alone 2 was also decent
Also saw, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Uncles Buck, good stuff, never saw either of those before.
Was seriously surprised by Weird Science, that is for sure a movie that would probably never be made today.
Too bad no Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller, sixteen candles or pretty in pink.

For sure not watching home alone 3.

So we got Tenet showing that theatre releases aren't really feasible, neither does Mulan show that for PVOD releases. I get WB's issue with how they're gonna release, but in the end I hope that I'll get the chance to watch it on the big screen

Mark my words, we will not see any of these movies before 2022 unless they bite the bullet for Streaming/PVOD. No chance theatres will magically be up and running with any sort of capacity these films need within 6 months with the way things are right now

I have been going to cinemas for the last twenty weeks here in Germany and havn't caught Covid-19, because the cinemas have really invested in air-filters, had a 25% capacity reduction (later 50% which was never reached) and later on you were required to wear masks.

Now cinemas are closed and i can't see anything this week.
Next week i'll probably visit a drive-in with a friend, as these are still allowed to open.
The problem is that there are no movies playing that i havn't seen, so i'll watch something old.
