Dark Phoenix underwent some major changes when Fox recoiled at the idea of committing to that, and when the finished product was rejected by studio bosses and test audiences alike, the entire final act was reshot. What was supposed to be an epic, cosmic
X-Men finale turned into a ride on a train and the Skrulls became the D'Bari.
Now, new concept art from the Marvel movie has been revealed by some of the artists who worked on it, and it's clear that it was once going to be a very, very different type of adventure.
As well as alien planets, we get to see a fiery Phoenix who looked like she stepped straight out of the pages of the comic books and a glimpse inside the Skrull warship (not to mention different takes on the aliens themselves). While this wouldn't have necessarily made Simon Kinberg's movie better, it's clear that he once had much bigger ideas which didn't come to fruition.
