How did this movie turn out so bad?
Reeds2Much

@PantherKing - The director thinks it was Wolverine and Jean Grey's relationship that was important in the original storyline. It's like reading The Old Man and the Sea and then making a movie focused on what type of bait the old man used.

@PantherKing - You had the guy who wrote The Last Stand come back and get another crack at the same story line, with it also being his directorial debut...

SageMode

@PantherKing - because it's with Fox.

@Reeds2Much - "It's like reading The Old Man and the Sea and then making a movie focused on what type of bait the old man used."

Perfect analogy.

@Sickness1985 -
Both movies had actors. That is about all they had in common.

when i was in the comic store yesterday trying to get the JL #25. someone working there compared it to toilet water , so these are 2 conflicting stories :(

The movie itself has some similarities to civil war but one is the greatest comic book movie and the other has an alien.

Even without the 19 20 movie build up, there was nothing in this movie that made you feel for these characters. I think this movie is what mcu detractors say the mcu is.

When has a studio EVER just let an amateur director write and direct an exact do-over of a film/franchise he helped run into the ground 10 years ago? They never will again, I'll tell you that much. Why did this happen? lol

@NormanVOsborn - The closest thing that I can think of is Joss Whedon getting to make the Buffy the Vampire series after the movie that he wrote flopped.

You COULD'VE done a whole lot of different things. Not ignoring what came before for starters. Not convoluting this franchise so much. You could've even opened yourself for a partnership with MCU, just like Sony did. But you didn't. And here we are.

Maybe he's just trying to reduce his writing process to relate to the common viewer, but hearing a director of a big-budget film describe his creative process this way makes him seem so amateur. I feel like he's describing his fan-fiction.
