Inb4 Forthas blames all the MCU fanboys (even though it's completely illogical to think it's now that they would have made a difference).

"The next billion dollar film..."

Forthas - 5/15/2019, 7:06 AM

"1) It is a Marvel film
2) Its Star Power (Jessica Chastain, Fassbender, Lawrence...and Sphie turner following GOT)
3) Marketed as final X men Film
4) Kicks off the summer block buster season
5) A popular Xmen story"

@DnA - Who knew that we had so much power that we could convince the tens of millions of people (needed for his billion dollar prediction) who were otherwise going to see Dark Phoenix, not to go. And we did it Illuminati style too, without any public boycott campaigns and "calls to action"

And why would we do this for a franchise we knew was going to get rebooted regardless of how well this movie did, when we could have used this great power against Venom and the "Spidey-less Spider-man Universe"?

@TheBlueMorpho - In a perfect world that may have gotten the job done, but #2 is hella problematic:

Nobody really likes Jessica Chastain, Fassbender is not a box office draw, Lawrence soured everyone on Mystique, and GOT crashed and burned in its final season.

#5. We've seen this movie before, by the same [frick]ing writer/producer, and now director. It sucked the first time.

This just came and gone. Completely forgot it existed.

Didn't even bother to see at the cinema and that's saying something, considering I've seen every X-film since 2000 at the cinema.

After the burial of this franchise, now I am patiently waiting for its resurrection in the MCU.

Just goes to show regardless of whether or not the Fox deal went through, their failure would have always brought them back to Feige.

@PlusUltra - Kevin Feige- "I know what I must do. I will shred this franchise down to it's last atom, and then with the characters you have sold back to me, create a new version. One teaming with continuity and knows not what it was before but only what it has been given. A grateful X-Men."

I suppose that if they had done a deal like the Sony-Marvel one instead of the buyout, we’d be seeing the MCU versions of either the mutants or the FF much sooner. Fox wouldn’t be content to wait... Marvel would once again have to bump one of their planned releases back to give the production spot to a Fox property.

Good it deserves it!!! They should have shelved this movie like many people(myself included)kept repeatedly saying. Now it’s done more damage to the brand than it was worth which really sucks but it’s what I expected really. Hope they at least cancel New Mutants

After Apocalypse's direct competition were the Ant-Man movies I never expected Dark Phoenix to make significantly more than that, and was rather prepared to see a continuation of the downward trend. But, man, not quite like this.

Right now Endgame is closer to beating Avatar than Dark Phoenix is to beating The Incredible Hulk. Damn. The X-Men really deserve better.

"According to a new report, the Simon Kinberg helmed release made around $430,000 this weekend for a domestic total of just $64.628 million."

X-men Apocalypse Opening Weekend:
$65,769,562

Damn, Dark Phoenix hasn't even made it to Apocalypse's opening after an entire month, and $250 million seems completely out of its reach now

We did say that this franchise had lost its audience and the decline started with Apocalypse would only get worse. A certain someone refused to listen and is now blaming us for this, even after all our warnings
Kyos
Kyos - 7/8/2019, 7:50 AM
@lordSTALE - I mean, it was really not that unexpected. Apocalypse followed DOFP (and Deadpool), by far the highest grossing movie(s) in the franchise at the time, and it made more than $200M less than DOFP. That'd be a noticeable drop even if DOFP had made Avengers money.

But they went from "the biggest X-team movie ever made slightly less than Guardians 1" to "the sequel to the biggest X-team movie ever made slightly more than Ant-Man 1". I genuinely have no clue where some people got their faith in Dark Phoenix's box office performance from.

@Kyos - the X-men films just doesn’t have that appeal to the general audience and compared to other the cbm that are out, the X-men look and feels super outdated
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 7/8/2019, 8:27 AM
@Kyos - It was just extreme wishful thinking

There was this silly idea that this franchise and cast would just be merged into the MCU. Someone wanted this silly dream to come true so badly, and they thought Dark Phoenix making a billion would help with that conclusion. But now it's a fail of epic proportions and in their anger, they've been lashing out at the MCU fans that were warning them the whole time

Lol.. I finally saw it. It was awful. The Prof X/Adam West Bat-Phone to thr POTUS was absolutely stupid..

Sure it has a cogent plot that moves along. But the story is like every bad CBM idea rolled into on movie.
