The more I think about it, they should've made a two-parter out of their fantastic four/daredevil/x-men team-up and days of future past projects. Make the first one about their civil war and as consequence of the sra the introduction of sentinels and DofP could've stayed almost the same

There's a joke to the benefit of CAPTAIN MARVEL and the detriment of SHAZAM & DARK PHOENIX somewhere in here and I'm determined to find it.

Will update immediately as I make progress

@OmegaDaGrodd - Shazam only cost $100m and got great reviews, but sure - it's comparable to Dark Phoenix.

@tmp3 - You're completely misreading my comment and throwing me off the scent of this mysterious and elusive joke

We can circle back on this later but right now getting these takes off is my prime objective

This is a terribly written post. Where are the sources, even mentioned in passing, for where this comes from? Skrulls being a typo doesn't help either...

@DalekCraigWasson - MCU Cosmic is the source, it's at the top. I like to rag on Josh as much as the next guy, but that s sadly something that he does have is a source.

@Mrcool210 - My mistake, I didn't see that. I was referring to in the body of the article itself. The tiny link is helpful, I genuinely didn't see it, but if you are writing an article based on someone else's scoop, it wouldn't hurt to say that in the body of the text.

I'm betting the reason it wasn't two parters is because they probably originally wanted brian singer to come back to do the Phoenix force properly like they thought he would for Last Stand, then when he dropped out and kingberg came in they were like...

Good to have confirmation that the aliens were meant to be Skrulls. That seemed pretty blatant in the movie considering they can shape shift, but had different designs and the only mention of their name came in a subtitle.

Curious though if Disney was the one that made them change it since they were appearing in Captain Marvel (maybe to avoid another Quicksilver situation???).
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 6/9/2019, 11:35 AM
@IronMandarin - Maybe "made them" isn't the right construction, but it makes all the sense in the world that once Fox was on its way to Disney that they would streamline their releases to fit better into Marvel's plans.

The aliens of Dark Phoenix don't seem to have a huge or deep role in the story itself. They are mostly observers until the late-second/third act. They frankly don't really matter that much except as climax fodder. (The original movie may have been a bit different, but that structure seems to be there.)

The test screening leaks/rumors sound like they always had a heavy inspiration from the D'Bari (being the planet that the Phoenix destroys), so if there was a decision made to lean away from Skrulls, then part of that consideration could definitely be not stepping Captain Marvel's toes.

For all the animus fans may have about these two studios, these people do work together as cooperative partners. Their goal isn't to sabotage each other. They do try to stick to their own lanes as much as possible.
IronMandarin
IronMandarin - 6/9/2019, 11:57 AM
@Spock0Clock - Precisely. That's my line of thinking. Especially as the two studios will soon be one.

Frankly, both versions of the "Skrulls" were kind of ridiculous.

Is this gonna be one of those Zach Snyder things, where the director spends the next 3 years saying shit like, "There's a good movie in there somewhere. It was a masterpiece before the studio interfered. This thing was high art; Stanley Kubrick × 3,000 bro!"

I honestly don't understand why these directors and producers feel the need to make excuses for the shitty movies they've made. They all got PAID. They made their money off these IP's and couldn't care less about the "quality" of the films. You made a cash-grab piece of garbage. These people don't need to bother with excuses; they have their money to console themselves. 😜

@Feralwookiee - nah, the diminishing returns of the mainline X-Men franchise show that, unlike the Snyderbros, X-Men fans have some semblance of common sense.

Well, in all fairness, directors who make good films also muddy the waters with background noise.

Well a lot of this sounds really cool so it makes sense that Fox chose to go a different way. I wouldn’t have expected anything different.

For the life of me I’ll never [frick]ing understand why they gave such a huge project with a massive budget to a first time director.
Producer or not, it makes no goddamn sense.
On really any kind of level.
MCU, Take 3.

It is unclear to me who is responsible for these changes. Is it Fox Corporation because they did not give a crap...or Disney because they wanted to protect Captain Marvel. In any event the movie that resulted is not bad. But what could have been.

Lol.. Lets get real for a moment. They scrapped the 2 part movie because they'd have to deal with a basic concept the entire franchise has been completely unable to grasp..

Continuity..

When are they going to get that Simon Kinberg should never be allowed to direct any property ever?
