X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE Actor Liev Schreiber Was Approached To Reprise The Role Of Sabretooth In LOGAN

Unfortunately, Wolverine's most popular foe, Sabretooth, doesn't make an appearance in Logan - however, during a new interview, actor Liev Schreiber reveals that he was asked to reprise the role.

Though X-Men Origins Wolverine was pretty much universally reviled by fans, Liev Schreiber's take on Victor Creed/Sabretooth is generally regarded as one of the few highlights of the movie. Because of this, many hoped to see the Ray Donovan actor reprise the role for James Mangold's Logan, but, despite some early rumors getting our hopes up, it wasn't to be.

We recently found out that an early draft of the script actually did include a few scenes with Creed, and now we have a better idea of why the character was ultimately cut from the film.

During an interview with Variety, Schreiber reveals that he was approached about returning as the bloodthirsty mutant, but a scheduling conflict meant that he had to regretfully decline:

“There was an invitation early on from Hugh [Jackman] and [director James Mangold] and I would have loved to work on it. It was very difficult given Ray Donovan’s schedule, and I think they went a different direction as well with story. I think it’s a terrific movie. I’m just very proud of Hugh and the way that he handled himself with that franchise and that character. It was a great experience to be involved with one of them and to get to work with them. I had mixed emotions when I heard that he was going to retire.”

It's a shame that this didn't work out, as now that Jackman has hung up the claws, it seems highly unlikely that we'll ever see Schreiber's take on Sabretooth again. Then again, 20th Century Fox is clearly aware of how much fans wanted to see him return for Logan, so who knows.

A black and white version of Logan is returning to theaters on May 16. Will you be checking it out?
