ComingSoon.net has obtained an awesome storyboard animatic from Josh Boone's upcoming New Mutants movie that confirms Demon Bear as the film's main villain and strongly suggests that the film will adapt parts of "The Demon Bear Saga." To those unfamiliar with the comics, Demon Bear is an actual giant bear, who draws his immense strength & power from negative human emotion.

The report goes on to reveal that 20th Century Fox is currently targeting a Spring 2018 release date, which likely means that the March 2, 2018 release date Fox already has booked for an Untitled Marvel Film was probably reserved for the New Mutants. This also falls in line with the rumored 2017 production start date.

As for the film's tone, it's being said that it'll be a significant departure from the high-flying sci-fi/action displayed in the core X-Men films with ComingSoon describing the project as a "Stephen King meets John Hughes-style horror movie," which should be welcome news for fans who have been looking for a different kind of superhero adventure.

Additionally, they were also able to confirm that both Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Split) are indeed being courted for Wolfsbane and Magik, respectively, and added that Nat Wolff (The Fault In Our Stars) is now being eyed for the role of Samuel Zachary Guthrie a.k.a. Cannonball.

Check out the animatic, which depicts a key sequence featuring Illyana Rasputin a.k.a. Magik and Lockheed the Dragon facing off with the gigantic Demon Bear, below:
