The Sam Mendes-directed film, Skyfall, continues its monster box office run, as the 23rd James Bond movie has officially beat Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises at the global box office.

Sam Mendes' Skyfall is officially the second highest-grossing film of 2012 (the film now stands only behind Joss Whedon & Marvel's The Avengers), as the 23rd James Bond has officially passed Christopher Nolan's final Batman film The Dark Knight Rises. It is currently Sony's biggest film at the worldwide box office. No one saw this coming, that's for sure.



Starring Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw, Skyfall is now playing in theatres.

Everyone said its going to make 700 million, but now it has beat The Dark Knight Rises.

Surprised me to the point of anticipating the next one. The dark knight rises underwhelmed me to the point being tired of Nolan.

So the movie that completely ripped off the Batman franchise (most notably TDK)actually outgrossed the official sequel.

Okay. I certainly had plenty of problems with TDKR, but ripping off another movie or franchise wasn't one of them.

Skyfall really wasn't that great. The first 1/3 was fantastic then it devolved into a made for TV A-Team episode.

My best of 2012 are:

1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. Life of Pi
3. Django Unchained
4. Argo
5. Skyfall

It's cool that TDKR and Skyfall both made a billion and both were in 2D. Hopefully studios will stop forcing their directors to convert all their movies to 3D.

TDKR and The Avengers deserved their billion, no doubt. Skyfall was terrible. It ripped-off everything Nolan had done (all the way down to music in places) terrible dialogue, stiff acting, vaguely nonsensical, totally unoriginal plot and a confused tone. I mean...the butler at the end. What the hell was that? If this movie deserves a billion dollars, it's purely for fooling people into thinking it was somehow good.

tonytony@ The facts don't support your comment. Not to be redundant, but some don't get it. The Avengers is still the all-time adjusted box office grossing CBM, which factors in inflation and the different ticket prices. ;-)

Ranger beat me to it. Avengers has it in tickets sales, 3D be damned. Still, that doesn't mean one can't enjoy TDKR, or Skyfall or whatever.

Hell, my favorite Sci-fi series was firefly and FOX cancelled it before ratings were even in (like 3 episodes in). This does not make me like that series any less.

Well deserved.

I remember the scene where Bond and M are at the mountains and Bond said " there's a storm coming", I immediately remembered the scene from the trailer of tdkr so I yelled "NOLAN RIPOFF!!!!!" everyone suddenly got mad and beat the shit out of me.

Loved Skyfall, don't get me wrong, but even Sam Mendes said he was influenced by The Dark Knight.

and rightfully so...with all the SUCKNESS in tdkr it's amazing it can even get near $1 billion, let alone crossing it.

don't get me wrong though, i don't think Skyfall's that great. it's good, but i still think Casino Royale's a far more complete and satisfying film/bond film. but, i'm glad it's made more money than tdkr.
