Netflix (via Toonado.com) has dropped four awesome new stills from Avatar: The Last Airbender, revealing our first look at the show's leads: Water Tribe siblings Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley), Fire Nation Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu), and title character Airbender Aang (Gordon Cormier).

Given how accurate each of their respective appearances is when compared to the characters from the beloved animated series, we're sure many of you will be very happy with the direction this live-action reboot is being taken in.

The streaming service has also dropped a brief teaser - sadly lacking any actual footage from the series - which puts the spotlight on Water, Earth, Fire and Air, as the emblem of each nation is showcased one after the other.

Since first being announced, the series has assembled a massive cast which also includes Elizabeth Yu (Azula), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Iroh), Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai), Maria Zhang (Suki), Tamlyn Tomita (Yukari), Yvonne Chapman (Avatar Kyoshi), and Casey Camp-Horinek (Gran Gran).

Last September, we also learned that Prey star Amber Midthunder and Star Trek legend George Takei are among those to have signed up to star in the series.

Based on the Nickelodeon animated series of the same name, this take on Avatar: The Last Airbender has been described by showrunner Albert Kim as "a chance to showcase Asian and Indigenous characters as living, breathing people. Not just in a cartoon, but in a world that truly exists, very similar to the one we live in."

The video below also confirms that Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender will premiere in 2024.

Are you looking forward to this live-action reboot?

For the many, many, many, many, many failing of the movies, the costumes were not one of them

With the exception of Aang id say rhe movie had better costumes

@dracula -
Personally my main concern other than the story/character development/handling is how the visuals are being handled. Like the One Piece trailer, everything seems too pristine, too clean and lacking the lived-in vibe. It's debatable as to whether that will change but I feel it's this awkward nature where some of it feels too much like a set?

@FusionWarrior - lol it looks like it's gonna be another bad adaptation honestly. Dimartino and Konietzko walked so kinda tells you everything you need to know.

Big Avatar guy myself, one of the best franchises ever IMO. I will hold any judgment, until I've at least seen a proper trailer.
From these pics, the only thing really putting me off is the five o'clock shadow on Aang's head. I know it would be a bit unrealistic, but I really wish they would use a baldcap, or something, to make it seem like there's not any sign of hair on his head.

Don’t trust Netflix after Death Note and Bebop and the creators leaving this adaptation

described by showrunner Albert Kim as "a chance to showcase Asian and Indigenous characters as living, breathing people.

This is why this will suck. 1st thing Showrunner speaks of is their skin color and not anything about the story or characters beyond his superficial judgements of them.

@WarMonkey - Fair point, the main focus should be on the story and on making a good adaptation of a great animated series. If the shows success leads to better representation of certain minorities, then great.

Despite how absolutely CRAP the movie was, it had one of the best teaser trailers that got me excited and eager!

The soundtrack alone was EPIC.

However I wish they kept how they designed his tattoo from the 2010 film,

Hey this is weird. I've seen 4 characters but there are no black people in sight.

It kinda feels like cosplay. Even though it's really accurate, it has still has a sense of fakeness to it. Doesn't feel like these outfits are made and stitched within the world of Avatar.

Sometimes a direct translation of costumes is not the best fit. This kind of looks like cosplay. And that is an issue with a lot of Neflix's anime adaptations that makes them feel like fan films.
