During a new interview, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors revealed that ruthless, mega-powerful villain Kang views himself as the "hero of his own story."

Although we did meet a far less intimidating Variant of the character, He Who Remains, in the season 1 finale of the Disney+ Loki series, we will get to see what the true Conqueror is capable of when Jonathan Majors debuts as Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Already being hailed as a huge highlight of Marvel Studios' first Phase 5 film, Majors commands the screen in every scene he appears in, and establishes the villain as a powerful force to be reckoned with as we built towards Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

As ruthless as Kang can be, however, he does seem to feel that his actions are justified, and Majors believes his character does view himself in a more heroic light than everyone around him.

"I think people are inherently good, and I think people believe that they are inherently good," the actor tells THR in a new interview. "If you think you’re the bad guy, that’s not a very natural thing. What Kang is going for is essentially good for him and potentially only for him. And so I would say that he aligns with the idea that he’s the hero of his own story and perhaps other people’s stories. And that’s where things get a little conquer-y."

Majors also revealed that he listens to a lot of music as part of his prep for upcoming roles, and chose a somewhat surprising tune to get into Kang's headspace.

"So early on, I said to Peyton Reed, 'Hey, man, I want to play this song,' and the song I played him was Stevie Wonder’s If It’s Magic. That was the highlight that connected us. So if you know the tune, you know that it’s not a very Kang song. And yet, I felt that there was something so elemental in it that connected to Kang."

Quantumania hasn't been getting great reviews (it's actually become Marvel Studios' second "rotten" movie on Rotten Tomatoes), but it's actually worth seeing for Majors' performance alone - and to find out why Kang is going to be such a potentially world Multiverse-ending threat to the entire MCU.

@AmazingFILMporg - I mean, everyone villain does, period. Even if they have selfish reasons, the fact is they see themselves as the good guys for doing whats best for themselves.

So sounds like the consensus is that Majors and Pfifer delivered great performances but just about everything else falls flat.

- Shallow story
- All other actors shafted
- No heart and humor that other Ant-Man movies had
- CGI assault on the senses
- multiverse timeline nonsense
- side stories in the quantum realm don't matter at all
- MODOK is stupid

I think we will get to the end of the multiverse saga and realize the multiverse was the wrong move for Marvel. Things don't have stakes (which some are saying this movie suffers from too). Needlessly overcomplicates things. It really only serves the point of having multiple versions of characters and being able to bring back legacy actors/characters. Basically to pull on nostalgia strings.

It would have been better had they gone cosmic and done Annihilation or Kree/Skrull saga, or Galactus, or something else like that. Timelines and alternate universes just overcomplicate things. I guess we will have to trudge out the next few years and hopefully they can do a reset and get back to quality storytelling again post-Secret Wars. Or maybe Marvel is too far gone. We will see.

@mountainman - it seems everybody's got their own essay to write about how marvel is failing.

Every review I have watched has one thing in common: Jonathan Majors SAVES THIS MOVIE and he deserved to be introduced in a way better film. Every time he appears he reinvigorates the movie.

One review said its like putting a serious, psychopathic killer into a spy kids movie.

@GhostDog - if he wasn't in this movie it'd get like a 30% or something, it's already 39 with top critics

@GhostDog -

I was watching gotg 2 the other day and totally forgot Thanos was in it. Felt like he deserved better too even though I really like vol 2. Just feels like a grand villain like that needs an epic introduction.

@tmp3 - Facts. One reviewer said its one of the great instances he can remember of an actor LITERALLY holding a shit movie up on their shoulders by themselves.

Might as well have waited to introduce him in an avengers movie or did a Kang solo film.
