At next week's GDC 2019 (Game Developers Conference), Google plans to unveil its "vision for the future of gaming." Could that vision include The Avengers Project?

Speculation is mounting that the mysterious game from Square Enix could be revealed at the conference next week as developer Crystal Dynamics will be participating in a special panel hosted by Google on March 19. At the very least, it's possible we could get a status update for the game, which was first announced all the way back in January 2017 with a vague but intriguing teaser. Game industry veterans Amy Hennig (Uncharted) and Raph Koster (Star Wars Galaxies) will also participate in the Developer Day session.

Since the first teaser, we've heard very little about The Avengers Project, but anticipation and excitement remain high. The last update we had came from Shaun Escayg following The Game Awards back in December where we also expected The Avengers Project to be shown (it wasn't). The game's creative director assured fans that the studio is "hard at work" on The Avengers Project, referring to it as a "very ambitious game." He promised to share more when "the time is right."

There's no guarantee that GDC 2019 is the right time to properly unveil The Avengers Project, but you can expect fans will tune in with anticipation.

At this point, it's unclear exactly when The Avengers Project will release or for what platforms. It was initially thought that the game was in development for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but it's looking more and more likely that it will instead release for the next generation of systems that have yet to be announced.

If that's the case, then a GDC panel hosted by Google, which promises a look into the future of gaming, could be the perfect spot for Crystal Dynamics to finally share more about The Avengers Project. If not, we should probably look at E3 2019 in June for more details.

A game based on beloved Marvel heroes, The Avengers project is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics – longtime developers of the award winning Tomb Raider series – in collaboration with lauded Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal. The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come.

Google's Developer Day session featuring Crystal Dynamics, Amy Hennig, and Raph Koster will be held on March 19 at 3:00 p.m. PT. Hopefully, the panel is livestreamed for those not able to attend.

I want a Marvel game in the same vein as Overwatch, and I wouldn’t mind at all if that was this game.

I think it will be years before we can finally play this game, and unlike Spider-Man PS4, I expect it be pretty underwhelming

I don’t think you will see any announcements until after MUA3 comes out

MUA3 wasn’t revealed until after Spider-Man PS4 came out. They probably won’t show off the Avengers project until that game drops first

In case anyone is confused by this, WB does the same thing

Look at DC games
2011 Arkham City
2012 LEGO Batman 2
2013 Injustice with Arkham Origins announced the same month Injustice 2 came out
2014 Arkham Knight announces, got delayed, WB pushes LEGO Batman 3 at forefront
2015 Arkham Knight
2016 Nothing
2017 Injustice 2
2018 LEGO DC villains
2019 this month or next month or E3 at the latest we have Batman Arkham Court of Owls

I think marvel would prefer to promote & hype up one game at a time. Not saying marvel is the reason for delays but it’s just smart marketing
