CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD & THUNDERBOLTS Pushed To 2025; DEADPOOL 3 Moves To July 2024

We had a feeling the strikes would cause more delays, and it's now been confirmed that several major Marvel Studios movies haven been pushed back, including Captain America: Brave New World.

By MarkCassidy - Nov 09, 2023 09:11 PM EST

The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes are now officially at an end, but with productions forced to pause for such a long period of time, release date delays were inevitable, and Marvel Studios has now pushed all but one of its 2024 big-screen releases into 2025!

The trades have announced that Deadpool 3 is moving from May 3, 2024, to July 26, 2024, while Captain America: Brave New World is being pushed back to February 14, 2025, Thunderbolts is moving from December 20, 2024, to July 25, 2025, and the Blade reboot will now open on November 7, 2025.

While these release date shifts are not exactly unexpected, we do have some surprising details on the reasons (aside from the strikes) Brave New World was delayed.

According to Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of The Hot Mic, the latest Captain America adventure did not go over particularly well in test screenings. Apparently, three key sequences have been cut, and extensive reshoots are planned from January until May/June of next year.

In non-Marvel changes, Disney has also pushed Mufasa: The Lion King from July 5, 2024 to Dec. 20, 2024.

So, Deadpool 3 will be the only Marvel Studios movie opening next year. Earlier today, star Ryan Reynolds confirmed that the threequel would be ready for the summer by sharing a photo of Dogpool.

“Did Dogpool save the day? Not a chance in gremlin hell,” the actor captioned the photo. “But she IS currently causing the Disney plushy merch department nightmares. Coming with the movie, Summer 2024.”

The fourth Captain America movie started shooting on March 21 at Trilith Studios, Atlanta, before moving to Washington, DC. The strikes previously impacted several other Marvel Studios productions, but we thought Brave New World had managed to avoid any significant delays.

We've seen quite a few set photos do the rounds online, some of which featured members of the villainous group known as the Serpent Society. We also got a look at Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) suited-up in his new Cap costume, and Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) sporting a fairly comic-accurate outfit as the MCU's new Falcon.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but we will hopefully begin to learn a little more about Sam Wilson's first big-screen outing as the Sentinel of Liberty soon.

Yeah we're only having 1 MCU movie next year. But we'll have Echo, Ironheart and Agatha.

@NinnesMBC - Honestly, I could do with a long MCU break. I just got out of The Marvels, and while it was fine — another serviceable popcorn movie — as soon as I got home I got the notification on my phone that the season finale of Loki was on, and now I have to drop everything to watch it before someone spoils it for me.

That’s just what the MCU has become to me: an endless string of movies, of varying quality, that I feel obligated to watch on opening night so someone doesn’t ruin the surprise ending for me.

@santoanderson - I'm fairly convinced that the anti-spoiler culture is just a marketing ploy to make the audience think that they need to watch the movie day 1.

@NinnesMBC - Finally, the shows everybody been waiting for.

Lmao.

@DiegoMD - The spoiler culture is definitely a problem. In the 2-3 days before a new MCU movie comes out I have to avoid YouTube and social media.

Tonight, after getting out of my early screening of The Marvels, I got home, loaded-up YouTube and one of the first videos in my recommended feed was one of those cringey “The Marvels Epic Spoiler Breakdown!” videos, and the thumbnail has a pixelated, but obvious image of a cameo character who wasn’t featured in the film’s marketing. And they’re pulling this shit at 7pm the day before the movie comes out.

And I can guarantee in about 15 minutes the same channel is going to have some spoilery thumbnailed video for the Loki Season 2 finale.

@DocSpock - Echo hushed a lot of people that were saying it was unnecessary and would be another lame show with it's trailer, the same case can be with Ironheart and Agatha's got a lot of talent behind it. And I forgot to mentioned Daredevil BB could also debut if they finish it.

@SethBullock - I would advise not to rule out any of those just after literally a week ago Echo shut up naysayers with it's first trailer.

DANGIT. 2025 for cap SUCKS.

Are we still getting thunderbolts?

Jeff Schneider has been wrong on a lot of scoops, but honestly I don't care what reshoots they have to do so long as the final product is good.

@MyCoolYoung -

Disjointed.

Some of the reaction has been exaggerated, either by the obvious crowd for obvious reasons, or by folks who clearly haven't seen it yet but are happy to jump on the hate-train, but the reality of the situation is that the film is a flimsy edited and hastily scripted mess.

There are parts of charm here or there, but it's such a God damn mess...

Oh, I cringed into non-existence during the singing planet.

Never do that again, guys.

Never.
JstaKIDfrmBKLYN
JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - 11/9/2023, 9:49 PM
@MyCoolYoung - It was fine. There were def some enjoyable moments, some of the action was solid, and I found parts of it genuinely funny. Iman Velani steals the show. Ultimately, it was better than the first, a very middling entry in the MCU.

@DrReedRichards - sheesh doc. Tell us how you really feel.

I hated the singing Planet. I'm glad it didn't last long.

@JstaKIDfrmBKLYN

I agree with this. Final verdict 6.5/10. I feel like marvel needed a winter soldier but instead got like an antman and the wasp. Some jarring things in there but some enjoyable moments. Should've been longer. Brie and Teyonah Mvps for me

Toonstrack - 11/10/2023, 12:22 AM
@MyCoolYoung - 7/10.

Goes full comic book.

Actually needed to be a bit longer.

Great fight scenes.

Emotional stuff was there but underbaked.

Villain was just there.

@MyCoolYoung - I’d give it a solid 3/4. Loved Kamala in it. She has an endearing presence on screen.
But…
1. The villain was trash
2. The story was boring overall
3. Everything felt mostly rushed (didn’t have time to breath to actually care)
4. The dialogue was cookie cutter
5. And maybe 60% felt like it could be been left on the cutting room floor.

I think CM can be redeemed in future films if they use her again, but this was up there with L&T and QM in terms of quality.

WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 11/10/2023, 6:19 AM
@MyCoolYoung - About 50 minutes in Fury is hanging out in the Justice League Watchtower with Kamala's family, cause for some reason he brought them to space to chill with, after Female Dark Helmet goes directly to Suck and opens a hole to steal the planet's air. I realized didn't care if The Marvels made Young Ben go from suck to blow so I stopped there and left. I was wasting time in my life watching something that was awful and wondered why am I doing this, it's not even bad in a fun way and everything seems so pointless and meaningless.

Actually kind of funny, the only character I wasn't completely annoyed by how cringy, goofy or dumb they were was Brie Larson. I actually thought she did really good, but the writing and dialogue she was given was absolutely atrocious. Photon or whatever her name is was awful, she's terrible in these. IDK about her work outside Marvel but here she sucks. And I don't get the Kamala praise, I couldn't stand her scenes, she acted like a goofy fool and I cringed every time she spoke and her family is the worst. I thought the Blue Beetle and Shazam's family stuff was bad but Kamala's wins by a land-slide.

Nick Fury is a ruined character now. He fraking sucks and has been turned into a Capt. Marvel simp and is a pussy-ass bitch now. Real shame I loved his character before. I've lost a ton of respect for Samuel L. Jackson for allowing Disney to feminize and cuck his character. This movie is a mess and I can not believe they actually released this to the public as is. I would suspect this movie is the final-straw for many. Also the action was atrocious, I couldn't believe how boring and how freaking long those scenes were, UGH.

@ChocolateMousse -

What are you talking about?
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 11/10/2023, 12:33 PM
@Toonstrack - I liked the emotional stuff between Monica and Carol. I thought brie played it well in this one. Definitely some stand out scenes.

I thought the villains motivations made sense but they didn't do enough with her. Should have been 30 minutes longer easily.

Musical was terrible even if it was only 3-5 minutes. The baby flerken stuff was jarring because it just ended. I didn't like Kamala family like everyone else seem to have
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 11/10/2023, 12:34 PM
@JustAWaffle - yeah I'm not against an hour and 30 minutes movies but this needed some more time. Definitely felt rushed which Is why a few scenes just felt kinda there
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 11/10/2023, 1:25 PM
@MyCoolYoung - i actually thought the flerken idea was a clever comic booky solution to the problem.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 11/10/2023, 2:42 PM
@Toonstrack - it was a comic booky solution but it just kind of happened and then left. It was a little jarring for me but also why didn't they eat the family too?

Please guys don't give me bullshit just for posting

The Marvels was a fun time. I had a good experience and my theater was into it. The villain was just an obstacle really, but not all of these things have to have Thanos level bad guys.

The action was good, Fury was hilarious, the music was cool. A solid B+ effort.

@ShellHead -

My brother and I (comics & CBM fans) rolled our eyes at it.
My girlfriend (Marvel movies fan) didn't disike it as much.
Brother's girlfriend (casual MCU fan) had fun with it.
A friend of ours (general CBM fan) also liked it.
That friend's girlfriend (total newcomer) really loved it.

It makes for an interesting conversation, for sure.
