In this interview, Joe reveals that in coming up with a new comic book hero, he and Jack Kirby decided to work backwards by nailing down the villain first (Hitler) after realizing that Batman's popularity was due to his villians. So, Cappy was basically a side-issue! They just wanted to get old Aldoph in a comic book and have SOMEONE punch him out!

Could there be a more pure and worthwhile motivation than wanting to see Hitler get the crap beat out of him?

I think not.

"And all be praised that Grant MorriSUX hasn't poisoned this character in comics!!!"

Exactly. Let's keep comics shallow, superficial and devoid of any intellectual ambition or value! Geoff Johns rules!

@ MattMerdoc, it may be but I will a While longer!!!!!
niknik - 10/13/2011, 9:14 AM
I prefer "shallow, superficial, and deviod of any intellectual ambition" to Angst filled, emotional, overly politically correct, bleeding heart drama.

Go read some Harlequin novels if that's what you are looking for.
niknik - 10/13/2011, 9:15 AM
Oh that's right, you can find it in the new 52 as well now. Well goody for you.
SteveRogersSon - 10/13/2011, 9:44 AM
LOL exactly Niknik...I'd rather not punch myself in the head or take some sort of drug in order to "relate" to some overrated sluff who would rather infuse some latent sexual overtone than tell a damn good action COMIC story!

Stay away from Cap MorriSUX...I'd rather not see him turn into some anti american douche like you made Superman. That is all! and I know because I'm Steve Rogers SON!

"I prefer "shallow, superficial, and deviod of any intellectual ambition" to Angst filled, emotional, overly politically correct, bleeding heart drama."

Awesome! Luckily, DC is still publishing their All-Ages line...enjoy!

@SteveRogersSon

Jokes aside, considering what DC's writers have done to the vast majority of their characters in the DCnU, I think Morrison's Superman is one of the least offensive. As for anti-American, Supes (like your dad) is for the American people, not the American govt.

"I'm loyal to nothing...except the Dream." - Captain America

SteveRogersSon - 10/13/2011, 10:36 AM
Johnny

Well I find Morrison's version the most offensive. Now I say this knowing full well how much I despise this writer so it's very hard to say this objectively.

I don't see how this comic, IE IN-action Comics, is anything mind blowing or the like...It's basically a retread of what other writers have done.

Of all characters, I understand the motivations of Captain America the most...The stories that he was in aligned alot of my personal morals and beliefs in this country. There have been the storylines where He has turned away from the government (Nomad and The Captain) and when the goverment has given up on Cap. (Mark Waid's story about Cap being told to leave the Country) Civil War was also a valid example of how Cap looked at the people, not the letter of the law, and saw fault. I'm not discounting that.

The whole gist of my original post was that I don't feel that Morrison would do any real justice to the character of Captain America. I feel that this writer should be kept in the ole "Veritgo" or Marvel "MAX" titles where he will have more free reign to play about in his "subjective" storylines. Keep him out of mainstay comic titles that are there for ALL ages..
SteveRogersSon - 10/13/2011, 10:37 AM
Or do you feel that Captain America has a "dated or stale" feel about it as well...similar to Superman pre DCn-PU?
JohnnyKrypton - 10/13/2011, 10:51 AM
Oh, don't misunderstand me...I'm not saying I prefer the nu version, but considering how much could've been changed, well...it could be worse. Keep in mind that DC mandated the "more mature" approach across the entire line. Also remember that Action is the flashback story of Clark growing into the Superman he becomes, and does parallel the original '39 version. Personally, I think Morrison wrote the best Superman story of the last 20 years or so with 'All-Star Superman', but I agree that not all of his concepts and characterizations have a place in the DCU proper.

As for Cap, he's probably my favorite Marvel character, so I didn't really feel he was stale even when he probably was (same for Superman). I think those characters need to be the moral compasses for their respective universes, even if it's not always 'kewl' or hip...there's something to be said for charcters who do the right thing just because it IS the right thing.
JohnnyKrypton - 10/13/2011, 10:55 AM
Whoops...I meant the '38 (original) version of Supes...

SteveRogersSon - 10/13/2011, 11:49 AM
Johnny You bring praise to the All Star story penned by Morrison...but again, that's where the "fans" of this person like him the best, when he can just go out and create something without his "influence" mucking up the main connunity- such as it is/was/will be after DCnU.

As for this new flashback...it's just not that original to me...it's been said before, only in a more crass manner. Whether or not DC has put this "mature approach" inline with the entire universe or not. I just feel that the Superman I grew up with and appreciated was a being who's presence, as if I'm talking about a real person, just inspired hope. The symbolism behind Superman and his upbringing..WHICH is also changed and discarded bye bye Kents..until the obligiatory flashback issue comes out..is lost in this writer's telling...and it's felt across all the new titles. DC has turned the "heart" of the DC Hero Universe on it's head..Again my opinion so take it or leave it.

As for Cap, His moral values expressed in a multitude of stories is what makes him so stoic. And yes there are similar aspects of stories when cap has bucked the established enforcement..again going back to Civil War..but I don't ever..EVER recall Cap, or Pre-DCnU Superman...basically demeaning the police or military...There was a respect...a belief that..they're doing their jobs the best they can, or following orders...you won't "hopefully" see CAP belittling those who would protect and serve the public..
JohnnyKrypton - 10/13/2011, 12:04 PM
"I just feel that the Superman I grew up with and appreciated was a being who's presence, as if I'm talking about a real person, just inspired hope."

Agree 100% here. I'm just not sure Morrison deserves the blame, rather than TPTB. Again, DC has turned me off nearly every book with this "relaunch," but I do think when Morrison feels like writing straightforward superhero stories (AS Superman, JLA, Batman [until Batman Inc, anyway], Flash) there are few who do it better.

I do see your point with Cap, though. Just keep Millar away from him...
SteveRogersSon - 10/13/2011, 12:46 PM
Johnny...I appreciate your points and opinions on this topic...we'll end it by agreeing to disagree on certain points.

All I can hope for is that someone has a "lightbulb" moment and makes some sort of change.

Millar...UGH the other Scottish "rogue" yes..Ultimate Cap...he did the same thing that Morrison did to Superman...basically stripping him down to be an angry musclehead who shows some minimal form of the character. I feel that fans of both versions of these characters (Millar's Cap and Johns/Morrison's Superman" Just want a base beat em up..no depth character...forget the impression their writing has on the history of the character...
JohnnyKrypton - 10/13/2011, 1:08 PM
