Cowboys and Aliens May Delay Avengers and Iron Man 3!

Could this be fallout from the Disney/Marvel merger? Collider is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau would rather play Cowboys & Aliens than get back into the Iron Man armor.

Yesterday we learn that Disney bought Marvel Studios and today we’re learning that Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau will delay “The Avengers” and a potential “Iron Man 3″ to do Alex Kurtzman Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof’s adaptation of Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley’s graphic novel, “Cowboys & Aliens”.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog Downey and Favreau are reteaming but they’re making “Cowboys & Aliens” their next project. That completely botches a 2012 “Avengers
” because that year is now for “Cowboys & Aliens”. And since Downey is officially signed on for “The Avengers”, it means we’re seeing that in 2014 at the earliest. And if “Iron Man 3″ comes into the picture (and I can’t think of a reason why it wouldn’t) then we’re talking a project slate that hurts my brain to even think about it.

If the title didn’t clue you into the premise, the story is about “what would happen if traditional Old West enemies, cowboys and American Indians, found the prairie attacked by aliens in mid-1800s Arizona,” which is a question that’s vexed historians for decades.

	so.. the delay of Avengers is to promote a western movie bout aliens. in the video/interview when G4 weighed on the acquiring of marvel by disney they said THOR might be cut out, and theyre replacing THOR which,in my opinion is probably one of the highest anticipated movies, and has me eagerly awaiting the introuction of Stever Rogers as well, but that wont happen so that disney can make a [frick]in cowboys and aliens movie?? c'mon Disney/Marvel.. what the hell? 	What I don't understand is if Marvel was sold to get bigger budgets on movies, bigger fanbase why would Disney scrap them. Theres no way that would happen. 	BTW, I saw a movie the other nite on SYFY with James Marsters in it called, "High Plains Invaders". It was a little hokey but not too bad for B-grade fun...Marsters spruced it up a bit...but it was almost a total rip off of Cowboys and Aliens! But it wasn't that bad! They were fighting big metallic bug-looking human-killin' aliens who wanted the uranium that an old west scientist was mining. A little silly but not as bad as I thought it would be. 	Now that I have your attention ... Are people just posting and not reading previous posts? If a director and/or actor is contracted to do a movie by a certain date. They MUST do it. Just because they sign on to do another movie DOES NOT mean the other movie gets pushed back. As others have said this story is ridiculous. 	the plot sickens. CBMs extrapolations about what this could mean for the Avengers movie may or may not hold water. Only time will tell. The thought of them not making Captain America just makes me SICK. I have literally been waiting for that one all my life. 	@ guillotine i agree, except no one is signed on to direct / or act in the avengers and cap yet right? all the actors from iron man and hulk signed a contract stating that they were under contract to make 5 MARVEL movies. not that those movies HAVE to be the avengers and cap. and also, there is no actual date as of yet, just summer of 2012. nothing is set in stone as of yet for those. also, look what happened to that justice league 90210, movie. they had a whole cast and director, but it didn't get made (thank god).
