Marvel Studios has released four hi-res stills from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness highlighting Master Mordo and three members of The Illuminati who, even now, could be considered spoilers...

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness took us to Earth-838 and introduced The Illuminati. Comprised of a formidable group of heroes, they assembled to judge Stephen Strange for the apparent damage he was causing to their reality by travelling there with America Chavez.

They weren't the most forgiving bunch (no great surprise after their Doctor Strange very nearly destroyed their universe), and many fans felt they got what they deserved when the Scarlet Witch wiped them out.

The Illuminati's roster was made up of Master Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Mister Fantastic (John Krasinski), and Professor X (Sir Patrick Stewart). All but the latter two are spotlighted in these new hi-res stills from the Doctor Strange sequel, and while it's disappointing not to see Reed and Charles' Variants, an official shot of Black Bolt is definitely welcomed.

He suffered one of the most brutal deaths we've ever seen in the MCU, though none of these heroes fared well when pitted against Wanda Maximoff. Hopefully, some images of the Fantastic Four and X-Men leaders are incoming.

Will we see an MCU version of The Illuminati? We'd be surprised if it doesn't happen at some point, though writer Michael Waldron has suggested the team might be exclusive to this specific reality. That's a shame if true, as much more can be done with this group beyond memorable death scenes!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters.

GOSH this scene was underwhelming. It was so obvious that this was studio mandated and Raimi had no interest in it, outside of the awesome astral plane scene that was way too short. Most of the members were clearly never on set at the same time and it showed. Clumsy shock-value fan service that drug the movie to a halt.

If they wanted crazy fan-service, they should have committed to the Fox-Verse. X-Men and F4 were supposed to cross over all those years ago. Call it the Future Foundation. Keep Xavier, use Gruffudd's Reed. Thing is easy to do w/ CGI and have Wanda incapacitate but spare Alba's Sue because someone needs to take care of the kids. Throw in, say two of Storm/Beast/Rogue/Iceman and call it a day.

But it would have been better, IMO, to just have Mordo and focus on Strange grappling with the fact that there WAS a way to beat Thanos that didn't involve the sacrifices he made. Then have ATJ's Quicksilver show up to slow down Wanda - a much more meaningful fight & kill for her.

The fact that they salvaged Mount's Black Bolt deserves Garfield's Parker levels of praise.

@DrReedRichards - Please Feige, do the same for Rheon's Maximus.

Such apalling mishandle of such a promising cast...

For a hypothetical Inhumans reboot, who else can be brought back from the ABC show? I say only Iwan Rheon and MAYBE Medusa. I could also easily see Jessica Chastain, Bryce Dallas Howard or Amy Adams taking on that role.

@MCUKnight11 - I don't mind if they brought everyone back.

Marvel TV sure had poor writing here and there, but the cast was never the problem in my opinion. The worked with what they got.

Prime example is Iron Fist, but I know a certain person that is far more passionate to explain that.

Black Bolt had no reason to look that good. They even gave him the tuning fork.

Still kinda wish they put Gruffudd's Reed in though. The whole Illuminati was made up of variant except Mr. Fantastic. Just feels kinda off

His wings too! How they looked not the least bit silly is beyond me.

@bkmeijer1 - I would have legit squealed if I saw that. But I'm biased because I unapologetically love the 2000s Fantastic Four movies.

@generictheeric - Same here. Does movies didn't get everything right bit Gruffudd as Reed was pretty spot on in my opinion

It was surreal seeing Reed, Xavier and Black Bolt on screen together. I felt like a kid again watching cartoons or reading comics.

Oh and Haley can show up anytime of course, Peggy is always welcome.

Anyone think with the Krasinski rumors and his recent comments, that Patrick Stewart might be 616 Xavier?

@MCUKnight11 -

Perhaps not in live-action, but I think he'll certainly be voicing him in '97.

@MCUKnight11 - I kinda hope not. He was great in the role, but Logan already gave him a satisfying ending.

Rather see someone new take on the role. For some reason I'm thinking Clive Owen, but that's moreso because I just wanna see him in a CBM in general

MCUKnight11 - 5/27/2022, 6:03 PM
@bkmeijer1 - My choices would be Ralph Fiennes, Ewan McGregor and Giancarlo Esposito.

@DrReedRichards - Might be too expensive. At most I see other multiversal adventures and Secret Wars if it's soon enough for Stewart to keep acting.

bkmeijer1 - 5/27/2022, 6:08 PM
@MCUKnight11 - Esposito would definitely be interesting.

Cue the angry internet mob though if that happens.

MCUKnight11 - 5/27/2022, 6:10 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I feel the same about the NWH villains. I enjoyed it, but I hope at some point during the college trilogy that they introduce the 616 versions of those villains, ESPECIALLY Osborn and Octavius since they're both too important to any Peter in the Multiverse.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 5/27/2022, 6:14 PM
@MCUKnight11 - I think introducing native MCU versions would only be more interesting now. For both Peter and Strange, who both dealt with variants before meeting their MCU counterparts, that can lead to interesting dynamics with those characters.

With Osborn specifically I don't mind it if they introduce him as Iron Patriot though (since I really want a Dark Reign show as a second season to Secret Invasion), but Ock has to be Ock. The Sinister Six are inevitable, and I think Ock is an essential part of that
MCUKnight11
MCUKnight11 - 5/27/2022, 6:18 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Agreed on both. I'd love to see an MCU Dark Reign adaptation and has there ever been a Sinister six in any media that WASN'T led by Octavius? Out of curiosity, who would you pick for Osborn and Octavius?
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 5/27/2022, 6:22 PM
@MCUKnight11 - probably Damian Lewis (and Cameron Monaghan for Harry) and Brent Spiner respectively. Or just Clive Owen again, for either.

I trust Marvel to come up with great casting picks. So far they have yet to disappoint me
