Trying to sort through the mess of Spider-man 4...
So it seems everyday there's a brand new "Spider-man 4" rumor. It all started way back when no one was sure if Sam Raimi was going to direct. It was unknown if Tobey Maguire was going to don the red and blue tights again. There was even a rumor that Sony had a list of replacements just in case they didn't sign him. Jake Gyllenhaal was said to be atop that list. Then even people close to the project, Raimi included, didn't know whether Kirsten Dunst was returning. Immediately after the three main people (Tobey, Sam, Kirsten) had signed, the villains rumors stared. From Morbious to Mysterio, Lizard to Kraven, to Venom returning and having Carnage emerge. There was even a rumor of Doc Ock returning and a possible Sinister Six.
Now that we actually have an idea of who is going to be in the movie, every rumor is now being aired. Whom will Bruce Campbell play? It's said he will have a significant role. If we look back, all his roles have been significant. He gave Spider-Man his name in the first movie. If it weren't for his being a dick to Peter Parker in number 2, there wouldn't have been tension between Peter and Mary Jane. In number 3, he was the one who held the ring when Peter was going to propose to Mary Jane. So I'm not saying he isn't going to have a larger and longer role in the movie, but let's not try to take it as anything but a major cameo role.
Now as to what has become the most talked about thing this week: Black Cat. Yes, it looks like she is going to be in the movie. But who will be play her-- we don't know yet. It seems like at least four actresses have tried out for the role. They are: Rachel McAdams, Julia Stiles, Alyson Hannigan, and Anne Hathaway. Now as for the first three, they all fit the similar description and age of each other and Black Cat. Now as for Anne Hathaway, I don't see her pulling off Black cat. Now if MovieScoop is right, she is playing this Valeria character then it could be setting up Vulture as a Villain for number 4. But it does not mean she will be playing Black Cat. I would say she could be a love interest, but how many girls are they going to throw at Peter Parker? Then it would be similar to number three, but throwing girls at him instead of villians.
Black Cat could still be portrayed by one of the other actresses, and if she is she would need a back story. This is just a thought of mine, not a rumor. But What if they took a page out of 'The Spectacular Spider-Man ' TV series and made Black Cat's father the man who killed Peter's uncle. No, not Sandman. The original who we all now is the true killer. The man who Michael Papajohn played. It would give him a viable reason to make a cameo appearance in the new one.
As for the Lizard, if he is not a villain in this film, then they have done another major foul up. He should play the main villain. It's been set up the past 3 movies. (He didn't appear in the first but was mentioned). They could have easily set up Eddie Brocks story in number 2. And easily mention the symboite in number 2. Just give a little mention of the the spaceship that John Jameson brought back the symbiote. But now I'm getting off track.
I'm just saying we all are trying to make out what these rumors mean. Until we get some viable information, (or conformation from Sony or Sam Raimi) we all are just going to give ourselves a headache. We're getting mad at what we think might happen or because we believe what other people are saying might happen.
