Thor is Headed to Disneyland; First Marvel Meet-and-Greet Character at Disneyland Revealed

Well, it appears as though an Avenger will soon be heading to Disneyland. In anticipation of the release of Marvel's newest movie, Thor: The Dark World, the California theme park will introduce Thor as a new meet-and-greet character. Hit the jump for more details...

The Thor experience will give fans a chance to meet the character and also visit Asgard, but it's not clear right now where in the theme park the Asgard set up will be, and to what extent it will recreate the fictional realm.

Though details are scarce right now, Disney announced that tourists will be able to visit Asgard this fall and come face-to-face with the Mighty Avenger, Thor. Knowing Disney, this sounds like Disneyland is getting a temporary Thor-themed exhibit that will look like it was torn straight out of the films, complete with a Chris Hemsworth look-alike to pose for photos with your astonished and giddy children. And who says you won't be the astonished and giddy one?

However, Loki would be in Asgardian Custody and won't appear at the park. Disney communications manager Shawn Slater said, Meeting Loki would be pretty awesome! [But] I’m afraid there are no plans at this time, though, to bring Loki to the park.

Thus far, the most immersive Marvel experience at a Disney theme park was Tony Stark's Hall of Armor at Disneyland, which tied into "Iron Man 3."

"Thor: The Dark World" is due in theaters on Nov. 8.

They should tear out the California Adventure crap, and turn that whole section in Marvel Land.

Star Wars has long history in Tomorrow Land, so they should build on that.

Marvel and Star Wars both need their own sections.

Just went to Disneyland a few week ends ago and got some great shots of the Hall of Armor...it was hard though cuz people kept getting in my way or posing in front of the individual armors for pics, so i took them as quick and clear as I could :]

And a guy dressed as Loki goes around the park stealing ice cream cones and cotton candy from kids.
DioFoRio - 8/20/2013, 6:27 PM
and telling them to kneel...can't see how that would go wrong lol

He would be perfect for the Norway site in Epcot!

@Bane5000

I feel your pain...twirpy ass teenage girls squeeing all over the place for a character that is played by a man older than their fathers.

it was a bit difficult for the fiancee and I to get shots of the suits too but we managed some decent shots.

also...Thor is not technically the first Disney-Marvel meet and greet though since Captain America has been on the Disney Cruise-liners in the SHIELD Academy (or whatever it's called)

Thank god my pass lasts for the rest of the year! Hoping they have a prop exhibit for Thor like they had for Iron Man. I can't wait for Disney to get around to incorporating more Marvel into the park.
I, for one, am (not so) patiently waiting for Avengers/Thor Mickey Mouse ears ;)

Damn, Visiting Asgard would have been a treat. Other than that 'ehhh'.

This is where Tom Hiddleston needs to just go to Disneyland one day dressed as Loki and be mischievous. Because honestly I would totally do that for the hell of it if I portrayed a Marvel character.

Hey this sucks, its supposed to be the happiest place on earth for me and only me when I'm getting all my pics taken with all the princesses! The 'ol lady ain't supposed to get no satisfaction!

Ya Levi...I'm sure Disney really kicked the idea around of having Hemsworth come spend a few months at Disneyland to pose for pictures. MORON.

^ What because there's no Bane or Superman in Six Flags?

Grade A Jealousy

So, Cap will be on a Disney cruise ship, Thor at Disneyland. Too bad that contracts with Universal essentially keep Marvel characters out of Walt Disney World theme parks forever.

Of course, WDW could get all technical and only have the characters appear at the resort hotels or Downtown Disney. Or heck, even right outside the parks' main gates. They got away with an AVENGERS themed monorail by only applying the wrap to the train that did not enter the borders of a theme park.

They need to make marvel land at Disneyland . Half of California adventure can be turned into marvel land!!
SCURVYDOG619 - 8/21/2013, 8:41 AM
That would be an interesting way to have Halloween at Disneyland: Loki and Malekith taking over the park....
