To be, or not to be Captain America… There's NO Question!!!
In the recent past, Brent Sprecher hosted a fan-poll right here on ComicBookMovie.com where the fans voiced their opinion saying that Jensen Ackles was the perfect embodiment for Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America. It resulted in a record breaking amount of comments as well as Jensen being rumoured for the role on IMDB.com.
Last week on CBM.com, fans all around the world felt a massive blow to the gut the size of which could only be compared to when Michael Keaton announced he wasn’t coming back to the Batman franchise, as InstigatorGIRL brought us a short video of Jensen and Jared from a Supernatural panel where the actor himself de-bunked the rumour saying that he was never even contacted for the role and doubting that studio executives would ever consider an actor from the “CW network” on television. Personally I don’t see what he’s on about since his very co-star, Jessica Alba on James Cameron’s Dark Angel, went on to bigger and greater projects right after the end of the series. She’s certainly not an actress I would call “award worthy” yet there she is, on the big screen, getting experience and becoming better as she goes. And what about Christopher Reeve, Leonardo Dicaprio, Brandon Routh, Will Smith, Danny Devito, Kelsey Grammer, George Clooney, Matthew Perry and countless others??? How could this be? Could acting be limited to only… *gasp*… ACTING??? Granted there is a different “feel” between a television performance and a box office one, but that’s not the actor’s doing. It’s the “director’s”!
Jensen also mentioned how busy he is while conveniently leaving out all the details of his upcoming schedule. After all, isn’t the Supernatural show ending after it’s fifth season? And judging by his tone and facial expression not to mention the time he took to figure out his answer, could all these “convenient details” be part of a LIE, or for a better term, a “gag order”??? The guy literally looked like he was hunting for his Public Relations Advisor so that he wouldn’t commit any “mishaps”. Now did Marvel contact him or not, THAT is the question! I think we can all rejoice since he did end in saying that “it would be cool”. So he is obviously interested in the role and I seriously can’t understand why Marvel would not want the majority of the fans on board opening night! LOGICALLY, if Marvel does go with their own character requirements, regardless of who Cap will have to EARN his leadership from (as it is in the source material), they’ll need an athletic 25 year old looking blonde American male and that narrows it down to uncomfortable circumstances as G.I. Joe and Twilight proved to “badly blow more than any bomb that’s blown before” especially when analysing the “abilities” of the young actors, or lack there of. In fact, whether we look at TV or Movie actors of Jensen’s generation, aside from the forever young 12 year old in appearance Leonardo Dicaprio, NONE of them are as good of an actor as Jensen and NONE of them have Jensen’s natural born commanding presence which can’t be taught! Aside from his characters’ “cocky” attitudes, he proves to all of us week, after month, after season on Supernatural that he is in fact PERFECT for the role of Captain America! So Marvel, get your asses in gear and throw Jensen the shield!!!
