Speaking to
Examiner, Sebastian Stan - who plays Bucky Barnes in the soon to be released
Captain America: The First Avenger - talks about working with a huge studio like Paramount (in contrast to his previous film,
Black Swan, which was more of an independent film), saying that filming
Captain America is 'a different world' for him. He also addresses the possibility of Bucky Barnes becoming Captain America in the MCU, saying he'd love to take on the role but the MCU timeline is currently in the present.
You did Black Swan, which was a big film but none the less an independent film. Now you've done Captain America with Paramount which is a huge studio. How do they compare?
It's a different world. Black Swan was more intimate, but there was less time to get the film made. Captain America took five months to shoot. There was also all the CGI which is rough to shoot. It can be belittling. You might do a scene five times, you have to keep your energy up for each take so it matches the rest of the film. I also had to keep my imagination in check.
In the comic books your character eventually becomes Captain America. Are you ready to do the Captain America role if it comes to that?
Like I said, I try to stay in the present, but if that happens I would love to do it. Chris told me, the roles come around. I will have to see what comes around. It's the present for right now.
This film is set in WWII, did the film give you insight into war?
Obviously, I've never been a supporter of war. I feel grateful for freedom. In war you befriend someone and then they die right beside you. You have to embrace life and be grateful. Steve (Captain America) has never been in a war, he doesn't know what to expect. Bucky has already been to war and is going back. He doesn't know if he is going to get hurt or even come back.
What do you want fans to know about the movie?
I hope they are surprised, exited, happy. I hope they root for the characters.
Starring Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan and Tommy Lee Jones,
Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters next Friday!
