Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has chosen Matt Reeves - who directed films such Cloverfield and Let Me In - to direct their upcoming film The Twilight Zone, based on the classic TV series of the same name. The project has attracted directors such as Chris Nolan and Michael Bay, and negotiations with Reeves will begin early next week.

Matt Reeves has been chosen by Warner Bros to direct The Twilight Zone, the Jason Rothenberg-scripted thriller based on the classic Rod Serling TV series. Negotiations will get underway early next week, but this is an assignment that was coveted by a number of top directors.

Deadline goes on to say that this film will be completely different from the last Twilight Zone film, describing it as a 'big sci-fi action movie'. The studio is hoping to sign Reeves quickly to begin production on the film by next summer.

Though the last Twilight Zone film was an anthology with different directors, this one is a big science fiction action movie with a single freestanding story that is linked to the original series mainly in that it shares that familiarly eerie feel. The hope is to sign to sign Reeves quickly, continue to work on the script and get the picture into production by next summer.

Do you think Matt Reeves is a good choice to bring the Twilight Zone franchise back to life? Sound off your thoughts below in the usual place.

@MovieMaster The list was from Variety (who's usually VERY reliable), so it was probably legit. Reeves must've been a last minute choice.

@PaulRom- hmm, Matt Reeves is cool, but i would've liked to see Christopher Nolan's take on The Twilight Zone. Atleast we didn't get Michael Bay :P

I wish the actually use a list of other directors to direct each segment like in the first Twilight zone movie with Joe Dante,John Landis,Steven Spielberg and George Miller. AND that movie was NEAT. They should use JJ Abrams or some kind of director who have worked on science fiction before. AND use good episodes from the show.

Not a bad choice, both Let me In and Cloverfield were pretty good. Also if they are making it a big sci-fi action flick, why even call The Twilight Zone?

Whoever they cast better have a no helicopters clause in their contract!

*facepalm. "Twilight Zone a "Big Sci-Fi Action flick"?? Uhh, I dunno. If they wanna capture the essence of Twilight Zone, it should have different stories with different directors.

Does Hollywood even know how to make movies anymore? I guess whatever film tone sells the most huh

Please do not desecrate the Twilight Zone by turning it into an action movie. Do not get me wrong, action flicks are cool, but it would not work with Rod Serling's creation.

Are you kidding?
Let Me In was horrible!
Do I have to explain why? Am I really in the minority?
Let's see, people reason that it wasn't a remake, as of course, it was adapted from the book, not the movie. I love how this Americanized version comes out only two years later and softens everything in favor of Hollywood's bullshit standards.

Chloe Morentz plays a girl vampire. Lina Leandersson plays a transexual vampire. Guess which one is depicted accurately. Why is this important? Because Eli (short for Elias) did NOT have her thrall around since he was a teenager; this thrall being in the book, a disgraced teacher/pedophile. Because Oskar is at first afraid of Eli as he suspects "her" of being a vampire, then later confronts that adolescent concern that he may in fact be gay, as Eli was in fact a boy before he was turned. This strengthens their relationship, as Oskar resolves to love Eli.

But I guess you just can't have a transexual vampire child in Hollywood, and a would-be gay kid as the protagonist.

Matt Reeves can sit on a rocket.

@Tainted87 Dude(assuming you are a dude), Chloe Morentz IS a transexual vampire. They weren't even subtle about it. You just revealed that you didn't watch the movie. Just got one look at the trailer and assumed something.

@dbatman I watched the whole movie and I never saw this big reveal that Chloe was a transexual. Please enlighten me and tell me where to look in the film for this scene? Having not read the book nor seen the original movie this was the first I have heard of this. So please, do tell, where?

@dbatman
Right.... so....
I watched it. It started out with promise, following a character from the book who wasn't in the Swedish movie. Then "Håkan" jumps out the hospital window and DIES, and I understood that this wasn't going to show us anything new.

You know what he does in the book? Well you see, Eli turns him (not intentionally) while feeding from him in that hospital scene. He falls out the window, is assumed dead. He comes back to "life" completely deformed from the acid spill AND the fall, kills the mortician, and the biggest manhunt in the area ensues. After days, he returns to Eli with the intent to rape her, but she manages to get away with assistance from the sun and a blanket. Håkan stumbles upon Tommy, the detective's fiance's son while he is getting high in a secret basement. The detective finds Tommy standing over him, having beaten the vampire's head apart.

I went into the movie hoping this would happen with the respective characters. It didn't. Instead, it decided to incorporate the detective into Lacke's role from the book and movie, without the emotional investment, without his drinking buddies, and without any real interest in this character. In the book, the detective lives, and never has any encounter that would lead anyone to think otherwise. In Let Me In, rather than Lacke (for those who don't know, Lacke would be the boyfriend of the woman who "Abby" feeds from and later burns up in the hospital), it is the detective who fills in for that death scene.

@RacerREX It was never outright been said. Chloe Morentz just repeatedly said she/he is not a girl. There is even a question if she was not a girl would the boy still love him. Nothing is outright been said. But it is assumed upon.

@Tainted87 You have not convinced me you watched the movie. You curtainly read the book, looked into the movie enough to know the difference between the book and the movie, but you didn't seem to watch it. Besides all i heard is "the movie is good, the book is better"

@Tainted87 okay that was uncalled for. sorry dude

Not the worst choice but J.J. Abrams would have been better. He already said he loved the series growing up so we know he would be faithful to the original series. Plus hes great at getting the nostalgic feeling of a classic sci-fi film which is exactly what this franchise needs right now. Please reconsider Warner Bros.

Growing up a fan of the original show, I think the movie is in good hands of Matt Reeves. I just hope they use Sterling's voice for the intro

Nothing will ever be as good as the original Rod Sterling Twilight Zone television series. I don't really know much about Matt Reeves but I wish that this had been placed in the hands of either Tim Burton or J.J. Abrams.
