Deadline is reporting that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson - most recently seen in Fast Five and the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel - has become attached to the lead role in Monster Hunter's Survival Guide, based on Zenescope Entertainment/John Paul Russ' comic book miniseries. The film is produced by X-Men: First Class' Simon Kinberg, and does not have a director as of yet. The book series is a comprehensive guide to hunt monsters, the undead and unnatural beasts, and survive the confrontations.

Dwayne Johnson has become attached to star in Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide, a live action adventure film based on the comic book miniseries by John Paul Russ that was published by Zenescope Entertainment. The film will be produced by Simon Kinberg through his Genre Films shingle.

Below is some plot info about the book series (courtesy of Amazon):

Monsters surround us. They're everywhere; on TV, in movies... they haunt our nightmares. But are they real? Do Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies really exist? And if so, how can we survive against them? At last here is the comprehensive guide every Monster Hunter must have! Whether you're a weekend Bigfoot hunter or a hardcore Vampire slayer you simply can't afford not to own this book. The Monster Hunters Survival Guide will not only instruct you on how to be the first to catch one of these mysterious Cryptids - but it's the only way you'll be able to survive the experience!

FROM SEEING ALL THE COVERS OF THE COMICS, BESIDES SEXY FEMALES GETTING CAUGHT BY MONSTERS, I'M PRETTY SURE THEYRE GONNA MAKE THIS PROBABLY LIKE A MAN VS WILD THING OR THEY MIGHT FLESH IT OUT INTO SOME JUMANJI ADVENTURE..

@GUN
Agreed. I actually love their Speed Racer and watch it often.

@Turd
Blade is like D., actually, in that both are half-vampire vampire hunters who are handy with swords.

D. takes place in the far flung future (about 10,000 years).

I'm not familiar with the book but I'm glad The Rock isnt tryna do crap like 'the Tooth Fairy' anymore.

@cwell510 Monster Squad was AMAZING!

Also Vampire Hunter D bloodlust would only be great if they keep the makers of Underworld and Blade3 away from it. Need someone to try to make a cool film out of cool material!
