It appears that a CGI Terminator film may still be produced by Annapurna Productions (under the title Terminator 3000. In addition, there's some interest in bringing Arnie himself as the T-800 in the animated film, which will be styled after James Cameron's Avatar if it's made.

A couple of years ago, it was revealed that an animated Terminator film was being pursued, under the name Terminator 3000. However, the project seemed to have been scrapped not long after the announcement. But now, The Arnold Fans managed to chat with Hannover House President Eric Parkinson to find out what's currently going on with the production, and he confirmed that the project isn't dead yet. Parkinson said that the project was in the hands of Annapurna Productions (who co-share the Terminator rights with Hannover). He also said that, if the film gets made, then it would be in the same CGI style as James Cameron's Avatar, while also commenting on the script/storyline. Parkinson also says that he's very interested in having Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise his role as the T-800.

In addition, a concept/pitch logo for the film has been revealed:

On The Current Status Of Terminator 3000...
"It's in the time being in the hands of Annapurna Productions, whether or not they want to proceed. We reached out to them, communicated with her council and expressed our outline with the basic story structure with the proposed principal creative team and how it can be financed and how Annapurna Productions can make a lot of money with upfront licensing. But there are issues at play that I am not privy to. I think that most people are aware of how long this ticking bomb that this The
Terminator licensing exists before it goes back to James Cameron.

"We have a good outline. We have a great story, and we potentially don't want to turn it into a script now, because there's going to be some creative input and we don't want to paint ourselves into a corner and say, no, we envision it a different way. But we've got a pretty good framework for what we think will work. Who knows if this concept fits their overall plan for the franchise? Personally, I think it's kicks-ass and would be a boost to the Terminator brand by introducing a new generation of viewers."

On Having Arnold Schwarzenegger Return To The Franchise...
"I had the opportunity to talk about it with Arnold at the MidCOM Market, when they announced his proposed cartoon series. So I was there and he remembered me from Hemdale and I told him, I am still trying to develop an animated thing, but that's about when the bad news came out. But my feeling is, he is and will always be one of the biggest stars in the world. I think he'd do the voice of the T-800 in this proposed Terminator 3000. We're excited about it, and we think it makes perfect sense and with all due respect to Arnold, I think this would be another great and quick way for him to get another movie out with just a short time in a recording studio."

On The Visual Style Of The Film...
"We can create a character of him in his absolute peak. What we have in mind is something very similar to what James Cameron utilized in Avatar in that we would use motion capture to create the base files of the bulk performers, including The Terminator. But yeah, it would be more of a 3D style motion capture proposed to live actors."

they want to make a CGI animated Terminator series? that sounds kinda cool but they should make a live action series that takes place in and around the War focusing on the human resistance's. Or just let the franchise be at rest. I rather watch the Terminator 2 opening for two straight hours than Terminator Salvation

They are destroying this franchise.. Tragic

When a film franchise goes to animation for the future I usually walk away from it (e.g. Star Wars).

They need to stop tarnishing the franchise that James Cameron and co. worked so hard to perfect.

@ SupermarioworldE you mean the one that he ripped off from a story that someone else wrote and did not give credit to until a court order forced him too?

I watched avatar to see what the fuss was about.....and it sucked.

Terminator 1, 2, and Salvation were good films to me. T3 was horrible and if they make a Terminator 3000. That sounds like a made for TV direct to video film. Just stop it and continue after Salvation with Christian bale. Make it Epic though.

Eh, the first two were virtually perfect. T2 is in my top 5 films. The third was okay. The fourth was kind of a mess. I think maybe I've had enough good Terminator movies.

Has there ever been a really good Terminator video game? Why don't they work on THAT.

@jadams07

Was that ever confirmed by a reliable news source?

In any case, Cameron's Terminator movies are still among the greatest science-fiction/action films of all time. The sequels, however just seem to be poorly constructed cash-ins for the studios. They should have let the franchise rest in good terms with T2, but alas, here we are.

On another note, I agree that Avatar was a definitely disappointing movie (from at least a storytelling perspective).

Since all the actors are now old Arnie and Biehn. Why not make the prequel to T1 using their voices since they are now too old to reprise their younger selves. They can use the same technology to mimic their actual movements on screen, so when we see Arnold as the Terminator walking, it's actually Arnold with one of those contraptions that Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington had to wear for Avatar. It's a brilliant idea!!

Wish James Cameron was involved somehow, It's always nice to dream, lol.

best part of Terminator Salvation was the arrival of what i thought was a great recreation of the Arnold Terminator from the first Terminator. I never could understand why Arnold arrived in Terminator 2 with the gel spiked hair. He was way cooler with the longer nondescript haircut that looked more natural and he was twice as big.

I agree 100% with Morty. The fact that they even considered putting an ending like that as part of the film series annoys me. It seriously would have ruined the story. As a what if story that would be fine, but taking out every character the fans care about would have been idiotic.

Salvation wasn't a good movie, it had a few good moments some awesome action scenes and it was set during an awesome time period but there wasn't a story there. I'd like to see a continuation of that movie if they can come up with something interesting.

The Terminator franchise could have become one of the all-time greatest film franchises but they turned to formulaic and lackluster film making seemingly only for the sake of releasing a new movie. I'll always be interested in the next Terminator movie but it does suck that the film makers vision seems so near sighted. They needed to have a layout of where they wanted all these movies to go after T2, instead they just did what ever they felt like at the time.
