Despite David Fincher's recent comments about the budget for an animated film for the comic book series The Goon being worked out, actor Giamatti suggests that the producers for the film 'ran out of money'.

Last we heard about the animated adaptation of the Dark Horse-published comic series The Goon, producer David Fincher said a month ago that it was being developed, but that the budget still needed to be worked out. But now, actor Paul Giamatti - who has been set to voice 'Frankie' in the film - was recently asked while at the Sundance Film Festival about the status of the project, and what he said didn't sound too hopeful concerning the future of the film.

“I have no idea what the hell happened,” Giamatti bluntly said. “I asked and no one knows. I guess they just ran out of money.”

@ Vision91:

You'd care if you had an opportunity to read the books. I don't mean that as a disrespect to you either, these books are excellent. A good adaptation of the material would find an audience regardless of whether or not they've encountered the comic, no doubt. I really hope this project doesn't fizzle out.
