Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Ridley Scott talks about his upcoming Blade Runner installment and recent rumors surrounding the project. He says that he's meeting with writers for the project, while also saying that while Harrison Ford (who played Rick Deckard in the original film) isn't in talks to return (debunking the recent rumors of Ford's involvement), Scott would love to work with him again. It currently isn't known whether or not Deckard will even return in the film. Meanwhile, Scott briefly hints at a possible sequel for his next film Prometheus.

"We’re still in discussions about whether it should be a prequel or sequel," says Scott. "It’s an interesting conversation. I’m meeting with writers and I’ve also gone back to Hampton Fancher and he still speaks the speak. He’s right there. I spoke with him this week. But we don’t even have a script yet."

"I’m not sure that that’s going to be a story point," he says concerning Deckard's possible return. "so I don’t know. But if it were, nothing would please me more. Honestly."

"I just thought Prometheus was so enjoyable — returning to the world of science fiction was so fun — that I wanted to [go back to Blade Runner, too]. I’m also thinking about what the hell I might do for a Prometheus 2."

Mr Scott, forget Ford. He's a nice guy but we don't need Deckard to return.

Please make it a different story on that world. If you want to reference events of the 1st movie, fine.

But PLEEEASE don't screw up with what's been so nicely done in the past by spoiling mysteries.

Ford's involvement is probably the only thing that would get me into the theater for this.

harrison in blade runnerII would be a HUGE story point.

if they made him uo or cgi'd hime then ridley could BURY the debate and have him a replicant.
or-
they could have an aged harrison and have hime play a terrell corp engineer who designed deckard.
or ridley could change his mind and say ...ah... he's human and now he's an old man.

it would be fascinating.

but- read CAREFULLY - he'd like to work with harrison, but it doens't have to be blade runner, he might want harrison elsewhere too.

anyway, the "sequel" to prometheus would not be "alien" it would be another film set in the fictional context, of which "alien" (with sygourney weaver's character being a part of) is only one tangent.

i admire ridley scott for being outof-the-box.
why should movies be exactly prequel or sequel or reboot.
why can't a fictional universe have all manner of areas to explore without a serial format?

One thing that they never really address in the "Deckard is a replicant" argumen is just what generation replicant he is. He doesn't seem to have any of the abilities of a Nexus 6, so he could very well be an older model without the 4 year life span. I think that as long as Hampton Fancher and David Peoples are doing the writing, it could be a beautiful film. My hope, though, is that Deckard is a side character and that his replicant status is still in question. To sum up what Fancher said, the answer to whether Deckard's a replicant is stupid. The question is what's beautiful.
