TRON: LEGACY Scribes Talk Upcoming Sequel

Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who co-wrote TRON: Legacy and will co-produce its upcoming sequel, update on the third Tron film. They also briefly discuss whether or not Kevin Flynn will return.

Speaking with io9 at WonderCon this weekend, Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis - who co-wrote the 2010 sci-fi film TRON: Legacy and will both produce its upcoming sequel - update on the third film in the popular film series. Due to their current work on ABC's Once Upon A Time, the two are not writing TRON 3. "We are working on a sequel," said Horowitz. "Eddie and I aren't writing the sequel -- because of the show [Once Upon a Time] we've moved to be co-producers on it. But there's a script being written right now."

"Dave DiGilio is writing it," added Kitsis. "[Joseph Kosinski] is right now shooting Oblivion, but we've had a lot of meetings and conversations and we've seen the first draft of the Tron sequel."

The two were asked about the possible return of Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges in the first two films), despite (Spoilers for those who haven't seen Legacy) the character possibly dying at the end of the last film. Horowitz responded, "I would say the definition of life and death in the digital realm --" finished Kitsis, "Will be explored in the sequel!" Concerning the possible return of Quorra (played by Olivia Wilde in Legacy), Horowitz moved to the next roundtable.

Recently, we heard from Bruce Boxleitner (the original Tron) that TRON 3 may begin filming in 2014, when Joseph Kosinski finishes shooting Oblivion. Little is known about the story for the threequel so far, but stay tuned to CBM for more news on TRON 3.

Legacy was a ok film looked better on Bluray, i wouldnt mind a third film as long as Flynn returns

I didnt attempt watching the first film,the effects those days for that film hurt my [frick]ing eyes,but I didnt mind legacy,not the best film but watchable

Yes! Bring back cillian murphy, bring back/de-age david warner. Make them both the bad guys for the sequel. Put representations of both in the digital realm!

Ugh! Tron:Legacy was a very good reboot of a franchise that had gone stale but was way needing a concept rehash. I watched the 82 film today actually. It has great moments, but feels totally dated and lame in other parts.

I know that jeff bridges has to come back too! He's great! Just don't de-age him this time. He looked WAY weird in Tron:Legacy with a fake head..Bruce Boxleitner however looked FANTASTIC as de-aged Tron in that one scene.

Recently watch Trinity Legacy. Awesome movie. Dialogue could've been better, but I'm being picky. Kevin Flynn must return.

I love Tron, and Legacy. The original movie was better, but I want a sequel. There are soooooo many things that could be explored. Can't wait for another sequel!

@Timerider84 - What I've seen, I don't believe Mr. Warner is dead. Yes, he is 70, so older than the others, but it would be quite interesting to see maybe another 'Sark' and his 'son' plays another digital character. A story of the Dillingers versus the Flynns might be an interesting proposition...

Bring Murphy as Dillinger, Jr. once more, give Tron the proper screen time, and Flynn...perhaps the new MCP, after the re-integration? Whatever it is; yes, bring Bridges back, too, and it will already be enough to please me.

I loved Legacy and would hope maybe the next story could get right what the Matrix Trilogy got wrong. I love The Matrix but its sequels had way too much spiritual overtones with little coralation to computer themes. I am sure many loved the Matrix Trilogy as is but it left me cold with no zingers.

For me Tron Legacy was the most anticipated film since the day the proto-trailer hit that Comicon so many years back. It was the same sort of anticipation i had waiting for the new Star Wars films to come out and having been so disapointed by those pieces of crap i still felt that Tron Legacy would be great...and it was. I actually took the day off just to see its first showing that Friday. Before it started i read the reviews on it and they were not so good but i still remained convinced it would be great. This much build up has usually ended in disapointment 9 out of ten times because of my own over-expectations alone. When the lights went out i can only say my jaw sat in my lap until the lights came back up. I F@#KING LOVE TRON!

I was being fecetious about TeaBagged...he doesnt like Tron and made it clear that his taste is in question. He gets really uptight about it and gets all persnickety to boot...in other words hes a d#@k!

David Warner is alive and still working. So I guess he got better from the whole death thing. I think Cilian the most obvious bad guy for the next one. I don't know if Mr Warner would want to return to Tron.

Well I hope they remember to not only make the efx good this next. Tron: Legacy's plot (if it can be called that) was remarkably weak.

@Timerider84, Warner isn't dead. He's doing a lot of theatre work in England and made for TV movies for the BBC...

I for one would love to see a third Tron movie. I do thing the Dillinger family should have a major part in it. Also, give Tron more face time...it IS called TRON for crying out loud

I never have got the "Tron Legacy has a weak plot" arguement. Most CBM's are basically good guy against bad guy stories plain and sim[ple and i'm not complaining. With Tron however theirs quite a bit going on.

Ditto on the Daft Punk comment, I still listen to that soundtrack all the time, it was like a new album from them. Schuuwing!
