Just an hour ago, DC Animation revealed who will voice Batman, Robin and Two-Face in their upcoming adaptation of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns (click here for details). Now, The Hollywood Reporter has debuted a batch of new still photos from the two-part adaptation, which will be directed by Jay Oliva. These images include Batman (Peter Weller) and Robin (Ariel Winter), among others, and give us a first look at the animated style of the movie (as well as how closely it resembles the art in the novel). Check them out below:

The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 will be available on DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital Download later this year, while Part 2 will be released early next year.

Animations a little too clean for my liking but hey at least we are even gettin this
Ancar - 5/23/2012, 8:04 AM
Great!!!
Ancar - 5/23/2012, 8:05 AM
But they could work a little bit on the colors - the comics has a pastel palette!
Wildaniel - 5/23/2012, 8:06 AM
Is that the girl Robin? LAME, unless its The Huntress.
marvel72 - 5/23/2012, 8:08 AM
not too bad,i thought it was going to look more like the comic.

oh well i'll still pick it up.
TheBatman938865 - 5/23/2012, 8:08 AM
nice
AlexDeLarge87 - 5/23/2012, 8:11 AM
Looks cool to me. :)
TPerryoo7 - 5/23/2012, 8:13 AM
this is gonna be great. finally a full length adaptation, instead of cramming it all into an hour and a half!

Peter Weller FTW
KillerOfSaints - 5/23/2012, 8:17 AM
First graphic novel I ever read. They did a short of this story during BTAS...Michael Ironside was the voice of Bats. " rubber bullets, honest"
thalidomide - 5/23/2012, 8:17 AM
Now this is a Batman film worth seeing.
Supes17 - 5/23/2012, 8:17 AM
Thank God the animation doesn't look like the art from the comic -_-
GoILL - 5/23/2012, 8:17 AM
This looks great.
JokerLaugh - 5/23/2012, 8:20 AM
Hell Yea!
Bark4Soul - 5/23/2012, 8:20 AM
Agree with Halfrican, it's way too clean and nice looking. This better not be super kid friendly, and I hopepart II is the 2nd one and not just the TDKR in two movies.
Unas - 5/23/2012, 8:21 AM
I confirm Supes' comment.
MrE - 5/23/2012, 8:22 AM
Not sure what I was expecting here, but I felt a little disappointed. Hard to translate something as iconic as DKR to a cartoon. I would be more excited about it if I had not seen Year One and been disappointed in that. Both of those books are just fantastic. If you've been reading them a long time, I think there is very little chance they live up to expectations. Might just have to love them for what they are or leave them be.
luffycapri - 5/23/2012, 8:23 AM
trailer please
Shaman - 5/23/2012, 8:24 AM
Beautiful animation style, makes me think of the AWESOME futuristic episode of "The Batman" :))
RaleighAntrobus - 5/23/2012, 8:28 AM
@ Pux: Seriously. I can't believe Wildaniel said that...
BmanHall - 5/23/2012, 8:29 AM
@ Wildaniel: Yes, that Robin is a girl. Judging from your avatar, you like Nolan's Batman movies. So one could assume you like Batman. Yet, based on your comment, you've probably never read The Dark Knight Returns let alone heard of it. Way to set the example for Batman fans.
Marjoh63 - 5/23/2012, 8:31 AM
Holy [frick] its awesome !
Wildaniel - 5/23/2012, 8:31 AM
@PUX

Yes I know its not Stephanie Brown. Its Carrie Kelley. I have the 4 comic books that the movie is based on. The one with the old Bruce right? I have not read them in a long time.
HavocPrime - 5/23/2012, 8:32 AM
Awesome :)

I can't believe this is really happening...im gonna cry.
DanteSparda - 5/23/2012, 8:54 AM
@NextHero08

Me too sniff lol.

I'm very exited for this, just a little worried, I hope that they don't change anything of the original comic, that all remain the same: all the blood, all the fights, the suicides, the language, the suggestive and controversial themes, ALL THE SAME.
preacher - 5/23/2012, 8:55 AM
I like to think I'm a fairly well informed comic book geek like most of ya'll on here, but....WHEN DID THEY ANNOUNCE THIS?????!!!!!!!!!

Sorry.

I check this site pretty regularly and I must've missed this somehow. Anyways, on to the gushing...

OMG! This looks SO good! This was the VERY first Batman comic I ever read (when I was 16) and it made me a lifelong fan ever since. In fact, if it wasn't for this book, I probably wouldn't even be on this site now.

@DanteSparda-[frick] yeah! I'm with ya all the way! Please dont' change a [frick]ing thing as far as the story goes, PLEASE!!!!!!!

@Pux-Did I embarrass MYSELF? I feel like I have. lol
TrueRedBlue - 5/23/2012, 8:57 AM
He could easily just fight crime with that chin...
preacher - 5/23/2012, 8:59 AM
Oh, and to whomever said that the Batman: Year One adaptation was "disappointing"? Did we watch the same animated movie man? I thought it was spot on. Yeah, two different mediums so some things have to change, but still, made me feel like the comic had come to life. I dont' know. Maybe I'm wrong. It has been awhile since I've read that particular story. I used to have the leatherbound collected Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns but like a dumbass, sold it when I was married, we had our first kid and money was tight. So now, I just own the tpb of Dark Knight Returns.

God, I tend to ramble. My point? An amazing cartoon in my opinion.
thewolfx - 5/23/2012, 9:01 AM
so robocop is in this
sbdc1939 - 5/23/2012, 9:06 AM
looks good so far, i think bruce greenwood should of gotten batman for this movie, but hey robocop has got to do something besides the star trek movie
NeoBaggins - 5/23/2012, 9:06 AM
Wow@Robin

And of course it looks clean. It's not like they're going to animate with rough lines and dry colors. This will be a nice watch after TDKR, which I think is Nolan's version of this.

Gnyah123 - 5/23/2012, 9:06 AM
i thought After Batman Year One...they were going to continue with a sequel to it...kinda like TDK with the joker...i thought that was the plan...and the next movie...

but this is pretty cool...how many parts just 2 thats it? lame
but i read online that The Dark Knight returns is a four-issue comic book limited series comprising The Dark Knight Returns, The Dark Knight Triumphant, Hunt The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Falls.....pretty cool i guess..
EtriganTheDemon - 5/23/2012, 9:11 AM
I'm actually on the floor laughing at all these people who have no idea what this is.

Yes, Carrie Kelly is a girl. Deal with it.
and "Robocop" is actually the mutant leader (The Villain)

I guess there's a reason this is called Comic Book Movie dot com instead of Comic book dot com, No one has any idea what they're talking about.
GiantNerd0720 - 5/23/2012, 9:13 AM
I like the look. I agree with the little to clean look though. My perfect style would've been how they did the spawn hbo series.
coolguy - 5/23/2012, 9:13 AM
I'd like to see strikes again as well. I actually prefer it. Go ahead attack me. I know its coming.
Jordanstine - 5/23/2012, 9:17 AM
Why do we (Americans) always exaggerate our animation's facial features?

I hate those big jaws.

Please have it be Anime instead.
Wildaniel - 5/23/2012, 9:17 AM
Like I said earlie,r yes I know its Carrie Kelley. I have the 4 comic books that the movie is based on. I have not read them in a long time. I will read them later today.
GiantNerd0720 - 5/23/2012, 9:21 AM
@superbat I actually like millers art a lot. I just prefer more detail in animation. Don't get bent out of shape about out. I'm still really excited to watch this.
moviesrawesome - 5/23/2012, 9:21 AM
Wow. I could break coconuts with Batman's jaw. Looks promising though.
TheDpool - 5/23/2012, 9:22 AM
@Wildaniel - Sucks to be you man......
AverageJoe - 5/23/2012, 9:24 AM
@killerofsaints...Ditto that. I still pull that out and read it every now and then. The art was rough and cool, and the writing made Bats sound badass. I too saw the fight against the lead mutant and I wish they did a whole show. I guess I got my wish. :)
hoodedjester - 5/23/2012, 9:48 AM
@ Yossarian - I'M IN!! Blanket forts are the bomb
preacher - 5/23/2012, 9:52 AM
@monkeyballs3-LMAO! agreed.
Zordan - 5/23/2012, 10:15 AM
interesting, this is one of the few comics i actually have ;) bruce should go on cutting diet :)
hush - 5/23/2012, 10:21 AM
This is going to be amazing, I seriously can't wait.
AlternateNo4 - 5/23/2012, 10:23 AM
@Etrigan when you step down off your high horse long enough to browse the site a little more, you'll realize that thewolfx was referring to the casting of peter weller as bruce.

(oh and btw now everyone's rofl at YOU)
ralfinader - 5/23/2012, 10:28 AM
Looking forward to adding this to my ever growing collection of awesome DC animated movies (although 'awesome' is a little much for JL: Doom, I admit).
TheJoker52 - 5/23/2012, 10:36 AM
YES ! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
Phlegmbot - 5/23/2012, 10:39 AM
As long as it's not a glorified motion comic the way BM:Y1 was, it's got some promise.
