THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, PART 1 Sneak Peek Featurette

A first-look featurette for DC Animation's highly anticipated adaptation (included on the Superman Vs. The Elite Blu-Ray, which is out today) has found its way online. Featuring BTS work on the film, check it out after the jump.

The Dark Knight Returns is set in a near future where Batman is retired and Gotham City has slid into a dystopian state ruled by a gang of hooligans called The Mutants. The 55-year old Bruce Wayne is forced to don the cape once more, this time partnering with a female Robin to not only stop the Joker but keep the peace when the city falls into chaos after being hit by an electromagnetic pulse.

The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 will be released this fall, while Part 2 will hit stores in early 2013.

That joker laugh sounds very much like a Hiyena and high-pitched. I really hope that joker since he's from the 80's doesnt come off as a flashy, crazy, Flamboyant joker. That would suck soo much

I will admit, when it comes to comics, I am pretty much a strictly Marvel girl, but I am so gonna have to read this now. Looks like an awesome story! Not sure I really like the animation/art work, but I get that it is a classic. Must find!!

Weller is nailing the Batman voice.
To bad they didnt tell who´s going to voice the bad guys. Harvey Dent, Joker, Mutant Leader.
Mutant Leader voice sounded crap. Hopefully thats not the final voice they are going to use for that character.
Clancy Brown would be [frick]ing great choice.

Agreed. Arguably, the best comic/graphic novel EVER! I even had a t-shirt with Bats on it from one of the pages in the book. Badass. I also read it periodically, just because I like the intensity that is created when he finally gets tired of the B.S. and has to come out and kick some ass!

First off let me tell you im just as stoked for this as the Dark Knight Rises. Might just go pull it off the shelf and give it another reed. Second, how come it took so long to make this? Should have been one of the first ones they made. And last, shut the fart up. I gotta wait a year before i get to see the joker get blasted with a batarang in the eye? They know how to mess with our brains and bleed our wallets I will give them that.

@superbatspiderman...i imagine they'll be in part two...that would line up with the graphic novel. Also, listen to what the guy says at the end about old enemies arising that will be in part two (thats pr0bably Joker).

This was in the special features of Superman v.s the Elite can't wait for this to come out since they are doing in it two installments I might wait to get it the second time around and watch this on demand since they will likely have a special edition during the second part great addition to my WB/DC animated collection. Now if they could start putting out other characters.

Seems it's only missing one main ingredient: Frank Miller. Would be nice if he could have been involved in this and contributed to it since its 100% all his creation from beginning to end.

Oh yeah, and the REAL voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy instead of Robocop.

So is the 2nd part going to be 'The Dark Knight Strikes Back'? That could be really good... especially if they filled in more on Lex taking over and how he managed to screw over all the justice league.

If its just 'Returns' in two parts, then what's the point?

I really hope they don't cut corners on this one. It's one of the most important graphics novels in comic history and needs to be done right. The line where Peter Weller says "you'll stay scared, won't you punk" needed more menace. This is a very adult Batman story so I'm a little worried that they may make it more kid friendly. Would still love to see a live action version one day. I reckon give Hugh Jackman 10 more years and he'd make a perfect older Batman.
