Which heroes should join Iron Man, Captain America, etc. in the inevitable sequels to Marvel's The Avengers? I've compiled a list of ten heroes who I believe should be a part of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After the box office sensation that was Marvel's The Avengers, sequels will inevitabley be released within the next few years (with #2 officially in the works, presumably for a 2015 release). Perhaps the most asked question about another Avengers film or two is "Who else will join the team?". Marvel's 'Phase Two' is currently underway, with sequels to Iron Man, Thor and Captain America officially announced (Guardians Of The Galaxy is also expected to be announced at SDCC this summer). Solo films for Black Panther, Ant-Man and others are also in development. So, out of all the characters that Marvel has, who would be worthy to be a part of Earth's Mightiest Heroes? Below is my list of ten heroes who I'd love to see in future Avengers films.

Black Panther

The King of Wakanda is one of the most desired choices to be featured in an Avengers sequel, and for good reason. T'Challa is a great character. The vibranium connection between Wakanda and Captain America's shield would be a very good way to help bring him into the MCU. A solo film is currently in the works, and was recently presumed to be Marvel's unannounced 2014 film.

Who Should Play Him? Many actors have expressed interest in playing T'Challa. My personal choice would be Chiwetel Ejiofor (2012). He's not the most original choice, but I think he has what it takes to bring the character to live action properly. Plus, Joss Whedon has already worked with Ejiofor in Serenity.

Ant-Man

Another heavily wanted addition, Hank Pym needs a role in The Avengers 2. He's a founding member of the team in the comics. Imagine the chemistry between him and Tony Stark (and Bruce Banner). Plus, he could pave the way to bring the villainous Ultron into the MCU.

Who Should Play Him? My current top choice is Ewan McGregor (Star Wars prequels). Adrien Brody (Predators) would be a good choice as well.

Doctor Strange

The Supreme Sorcerer would make a fine addition to The Avengers. He can add more of the mystic/magical side of the MCU, which is currently absent beyond Thor.

Who Should Play Him? Johnny Depp is a top choice, and while I think he'd do the character justice, I would be very surprised if he was interested in this kind of role. In that case, I'd love to see Joseph Fiennes (Luther) as the Doctor.

Ms. Marvel

Considering the fact that Marvel Studios is going for a cosmic feel in some of their future films (Guardians Of The Galaxy, maybe The Avengers 2 if Thanos will be present), it would be a wise decision to bring in Carol Danvers. Plus, the team needs more females.

Who Should Play Her? Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck) is the best choice. Hands down.

Wasp

Not as essential as Black Panther or Ant-Man, but it would be nice to see Wasp on the team in a future film. I'm personally not the biggest fan of her (particularly the Avengers: EMH incarnation), but I believe that Joss Whedon would do her well.

Who Should Play Her? I'd love to see Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) don the Wasp costume. Olivia Wilde would be nice as well.

Spider-Man

This addition would be complicated. With his film rights owned by Sony Pictures, many don't expect to see the Webhead appear in a Marvel Studios film anytime soon. However, I think it's possible. Andrew Garfield and Avi Arad both expressed interest in crossing over, not to mention the Oscorp tower supposedly almost being in The Avengers. If only Sony and Disney/Marvel can work out a deal in the near future...

Who Should Play Him? Unless Marvel doesn't want to connect its universe to The Amazing Spider-Man's, then Andrew Garfield should most definitely reprise the role.

Luke Cage

One of the more recent additions in the comics, I'd really enjoy seeing the Hero For Hire in the MCU. Would bring more ethnicity to the roster. Plus, he's such a cool character.

Who Should Play Him? Sweet Christmas, that's a popular question. Many have expressed interest in playing Cage. I'd love to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson bring the character to life (he even said that he'd like to do it). He certainly has the build for him. Also, he's one of the few wrestlers who can actually act.

Iron Fist

Can't have Luke Cage without fellow Hero For Hire Iron Fist. Danny Rand's inclusion would help bring martial arts to the MCU, adding even more diversity to the universe.

Who Should Play Him? This is a tough one. Ray Park (who wanted to play Fist a few years back) would be awesome, but I'd prefer someone who was better acting-wise. Timothy Olyphant (Hitman) wouldn't be a bad choice. Though, I'm always open to suggestions.

Vision

I initially wasn't a fan of Vision, but after seeing him in Avengers: EMH, I'm convinced that he would be an awesome addition to the team. Just don't go down the bringing Agent Coulson back to life route, as rumors suggest.

Who Should Play Him? Despite being linked to Dr. Strange and Ant-Man, I think Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) is best suited for Vision.

Falcon

Falcon is another cool character. He's rumored to be teaming up with Captain America in the Sentinel of Liberty's next solo outing, so that would be a nice way to bring him into the Avengers (much like Black Widow in Iron Man 2).

Who Should Play Him? Although he recently expressed interest in Black Panther, I'd rather see Anthony Mackie (The Adjustment Bureau) donning the red feathers of Falcon.

Feel free to add any more characters in the comments below. Also, vote below to decide which of the ten aforementioned heroes should be featured in The Avengers sequel(s).

Actually they should do Black Panter or Luke Cage since they have no brothers on the team! And yes Nick Cage does not count what the hell did he do in the movie but just stand around and yell at people!

FANTASTIC CHOICES. I'd love to see them on the big-screen along side THE AVENGERS.

It Spider-Man goddammit how epic would that be to see him swinging alongside Iron Man or taunting the Hulk? Besides the rest are B-Grade characters who wouldn't attract the GA when you have Spider-Man hes a pure moneymaker.
Avengers+Spider-Man= SHITLOAD of money for Sony/Marvel.

Its a win/win for both companies and fans.

A comic book fan wet dream to see that.

Falcon is probably the worst character in Marvel history. So lame.

Either Ms Marvel, Spiderman or Vision. Everyone else is either lame or would not translate well into the movie franchise and end up ruining things.

People do realise the more characters they try to stuff in, the more overcrowded the film will be, and the films will start to get well awful. Frankly as cool as others are they dont need anymore characters, and as much as black panther or ant man are likely sooner or later any ore would be overkill without disposing of a current character. But honestly the characters they have at the moment are the only ones that work in the cinematic universe well, the others could seem out of place or cheesy. Better villians less heroes.

When I was a kid, I was a big fan of Iron Man. Nobody in the general audience knew about Iron Man, now he is easily the most popular character in the movie universe for Marvel studios.

But yeah please no falcon. I'd rather see Hercules.

The masters of evil that would be pretty awesome. Frankly I would love to see Baron Zemo Jr. with the norn stones, could totally work in the movie universe with the heavy focus on Asgard.

For years, Spider-Man and Dr. Strange would occasionally help or "team up with" The Avengers. Even though in the last 5 - 7 years they have actually become Avengers, they have no business doing so on screen. That's not saying they shouldn't be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that's saying to keep things interesting in that Universe...there is no need to make EVERYONE avengers. Keep them for cameo's and cross overs, nothing else. Leave them as solo heroes.

Any and all of your other suggestions are great. As for the Vision, most people that are not Vision fans have not been exposed to older Avengers comics. In the last 20 years Marvel has made him the "go to" hero that gets blown apart in every story line to show the seriousness of the situation because he can be re-built.

BULLSHIT! Before this trend, he was one of the most powerful Avengers ever. Villains feared him. He could hold his own against Iron-Man, Wonderman and the like. Check out his older appearances and you'll see a drastically different character.

If the story is big enough there's plenty of room for more characters. Look at Lord of The Rings. How many damn characters are running around in those 3 movies (yes the books too)? No one says "Aauugh that's too many characters harrumph harrumph harrumph" Not to mention that these characters generally debut in some fashion or other in the other movies before hand (Now true, Hawkeye had all of two minutes of intro time on Thor, but it counts dammit).

Spider-Man and Wolverine would be so cool...I'd also like to see Vision.

I really don't get why people really want Spider-Man in The Avengers - I mean, great list with the 9 characters but him. He's owned by a different studio, but people fussing over how to bring him into this team. OK, him in the same universe would certainly be great (or every other Marvel characters under the same studio will be awesome), but if not, it's perfectly fine. See, there are those 9 characters, and even more that are more necessary for the team.

Oh and my pick for the next character to be Avengers 2: D MAN baby!!! After the D Man solo movie that is!!! It's a franchise in the making fritches! Thousands of D Maniacs will pack those theaters son!
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 6/30/2012, 6:41 AM
Now that I think about it, keep Luke Cage and Iron Fist off the team also. Leave them in Heroes For Hire and cover the street level villains with them. Somebody needs to be left on Earth fighting the good fight while The Avengers are off planet saving it.

Last comment on this topic. I know a lot of folks want to see Ultron and others as a villain, but I actually think Namor would be a good villain. Invasion by the forces of Atlantis lead by Namor with Giganto in tow? That would be a pretty awesome story. Plus it's pretty much how Namor was introduced anyways. In a sequel he could be a hostile ally for the Avengers. The battle seems lost, heroes are broken, all seems bleak and suddenly Namor shows up (arrogance in full effect) with his armies to turn to the tide.

Ewan, Noomi and Ray Park are perfect choices. Current Mr Olympia Phil Heath would make a good Powerman

@FriendlyJoShFest. I agree with spidey being in the avengers since Mr Garfield and Mr Arad have been talking about. Love the pic with Garfield with the Avengers comics. Could be a great big massive hint. Hmmmmmmmmm.

But anyway, I think the 6 of them is enough...although additional members seem pretty inevitable, I guess. I'd love to see Pym, Dyne, Danvers, Wilson, and T'Challa the most - that's enough, I suppose.

They really only have room for two more characters. MAYBE three. You don't want the focus to spread to thin. Yes there are other movies with more characters (LOTR) but this feels different.

Spider-man is the last choice. He's already had three of his own movies I want to see someone new and different.

Sirwinsalot??? Shit movie??? I hope you realize your in the literal 1% of people who think that. Clearly you ruined the movie for yourself.

By the way, here are a few of my picks.

- Ant-Man: Ewan McGregor will be awesome, but Neil Patrick Harris could be very interesting in the role.

- Wasp: Can't tell, perhaps Morena Baccarin...ot whoever.

- Black Panther: Aldis Hodge. Seeing him back in Supernatural is enough to convince me.

- Doctor Strange: Benedict Cumberbatch.

- Vision: Oh, I'd love to see that Coulson theory coming into reality...or that JARVIS idea. Paul Bettany would be great.

- Ms. Marvel: Yvonnee Strahovski is enough, I guess.

- Falcon: Anthony Mackie would be awesome, but someone more mature-looking could work better, I guess.

I really have no idea about Luke Cage or Iron Fist. And, I'd personally swap Spidey with Captain Marvel, or Wonder Man.

When New Avengers is formed in the sequel, or even spin-off...that's time to bring Spidey, Wolvie, Cage, Fist, and Strange in.

PaulRom Good choices although personally: Doctor Strange, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist should be Defenders, not Avengers. I would do it similar to how they did the Avengers movie doing solo films then finally doing a big Defenders movie. I'd probably have Hulk in a Defenders movie as well. :) Besides that all the others really, really need to be in the next Avengers line up. :)

Dr.Strange - Jim Caviezel

Luke Cage - Henry Simmons

Iron Fist - Charlie Hunnan
