Nathan Fillion Says He Isn't "Famous Enough" For THE AVENGERS 2

When asked if he would be interested in re-teaming with Joss Whedon for the planned sequel to Marvel's The Avengers, Castle star Nathan Fillion says that he can't see himself as a part of such a film.

For those who really want to see Nathan Fillion re-team with director Joss Whedon for a future Avengers film, you may be disappointed. Speaking with Digital Spy, Fillion (who previously worked with Whedon on Firefly, Serenity and Buffy The Vampire Slayer) was asked about his possible involvement with the already announced sequel to Marvel's The Avengers, and he suggests that he may not be "famous enough" for such a role. "I have to be honest. The entertainment industry is an industry. I love telling stories but finance does meet art. If I were in charge of an Avengers sequel I would be very concerned about what kind of money I could make back overseas, and these kinds of things. I'm not quite at that level yet where I could just be plopped in there but I'm getting there."

The actor (who also stars in the television series Castle) added, "I've had more than my fair share of Joss Whedon projects. I find it very difficult, even being the selfish kind of guy I am, to say 'give me more'."

Fillion has been a fan favorite for the role of Hank Pym/Ant-Man for a while, despite the actor saying that he wasn't interested in playing the character. But, should Fillion have a future role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who would you like to see him play? I personally would like to see him play Star-Lord in the planned Guardians Of The Galaxy movie.

Ya gotta love this guy. Two more Firefly films with a 13 episode tv series in between needed!
StrangerX - 7/10/2012, 8:01 AM
Come on Nathan you know you want to do it.
returnhangar - 7/10/2012, 8:13 AM
famous has nothing to do with it, hes too old looking now, maybe 10 years ago
hellfire - 7/10/2012, 8:15 AM
I think it's partly cause of serenity/slither not fairing so well at cinemas so he's being on the more humble side.
DanteSparda - 7/10/2012, 8:16 AM
@Xenix

So true, this guy should give one marvel movie a shot, this is the kind of talent Marvel is looking for.
Jolt17 - 7/10/2012, 8:17 AM
This is the article where fan suggestions will inevitably come, isn't it? Then, let me start...I'd still say Neil Patrick Harris would make an interesting Hank Pym.

My top pick stays with Seamus Dever, though; Fillion's co-star in Castle. Nice actor.

Jolt17 - 7/10/2012, 8:19 AM
Then again, Fillion himself is the one who says that he isn't famous enough...that means, not that Marvel are looking for a big name for the role. So, I'd go with Dever. Give him the role!
RorMachine - 7/10/2012, 8:19 AM
I wouldn't say he wasn't famous enough. Who the Hell were Hemsworth and Hiddleston before Thor? I would say that aside from Pym I really don't see what character he could play. Fillion is awesome but I wouldn't exactly call him versatile!
Ha1frican - 7/10/2012, 8:23 AM
I would love Fillion as the new coulson esque character. Patrick Wilson for Hank Pym
MisterFixit - 7/10/2012, 8:24 AM
And you guys continue to post
pictures of 10 years ago :-) go post the recent ones
Spidey31 - 7/10/2012, 8:25 AM
Ya it only takes one big film to become famous, like Chris hemsworth for Thor and Andrew Garfield for Spiderman and chics dig both of these guys.
JohnTom88 - 7/10/2012, 8:25 AM
Star-Lord > Cartoon Hal Jordan
RorMachine - 7/10/2012, 8:26 AM
You really think actors choose roles based on whether they'd be playing "good men" or not? If anything they generally gravitate towards the more complex characters like Pym..why am I even replying to this actually!
MisterFixit - 7/10/2012, 8:26 AM
and no to giraffe-girl :-D
GUNSMITH - 7/10/2012, 8:27 AM
FILLION, IT'S NOT ABOUT BEING THERE YET, ITS ABOUT HOW MANY PEOPLE WANT YOU THERE NOW..
RamonSuarez - 7/10/2012, 8:27 AM
Fillion would make an awesome Pym.

Its just too bad he seems set on rejecting the role.
theInvincibleMexiMan - 7/10/2012, 8:28 AM
you know, I'd have to agree with Just1Superguy
I like Fillion too much to see him portray a character like Hank Pym. Because if they make him Pym and give him his own movie and they even hint that he's abusive to Janet then he'll be known as "The Abusive Avenger"
RamonSuarez - 7/10/2012, 8:30 AM
LOL. Listen to the DC fanboy logic of Justsomesuperguy1.

Pym is an asshole for beating his wife during a psychotic break.

But Hal Jordan is a great guy even though he's the only superhero ever to annihilate a whole [frick]ing city.
GUNSMITH - 7/10/2012, 8:30 AM
I WOULDNT GO THE ABUSIVE ROUTE..YOU WANT A GENERAL AUDIENCE APPEAL AN RAKE IN MONEY, I'D STRAY FROM CONTROVERSY, AT LEAST FOR THE KIDS SAKE.
superotherside - 7/10/2012, 8:32 AM
He's an awesome actor, so I'm not saying yes or no on this one. Personally, ATM I think he might be too old to play a superhero, of course RDJ does fine, but from now on I'd like them to be able to put younger actors in so that they will have a longer time to play the role, but not saying yay or nay just yet.

PaulRom Nah, I personally wouldn't like to see him as Star Lord IMO. I mean I know where you're coming from, but I think another actor would be better. Not sure who though... just depends.
RunawaysHD - 7/10/2012, 8:33 AM
wasn't Hemsworth from Home and Away? or something
Tainted87 - 7/10/2012, 8:34 AM
He's got to be kidding.
Ok sure, outside of geekdom, he's not exactly heard-of, but that's not what it's all about.

I think he's making excuses.

@Just1Superguy
riiiiiiiiight.....

theInvincibleMexiMan - 7/10/2012, 8:34 AM
if they make him Pym, they should base him off of the EMH cartoon version. And leave the abuse out, because that version of him was awesome and made me realize how cool the character was :P
figuresmaniac - 7/10/2012, 8:34 AM
@RorMachine agree!
Just1Superguy is craving for a CGI Lex
RamonSuarez - 7/10/2012, 8:35 AM
Fillion has the type of chops to go toe to toe with Downey in a scene. It would be epic.
Theodora - 7/10/2012, 8:35 AM
This may sound weird, she may be a little too old, but i think the best Wasp would be Eva Longoria? She just reminds me of her, and she had that meeting with Marvel a while back, so shes on the radar.

And regarding Nathan Fillion, i honestly think he just doesnt want to do it.
angus666 - 7/10/2012, 8:35 AM
How could he not be famous enough? That seems like a dumb thing to say.
RamonSuarez - 7/10/2012, 8:36 AM
@Just1Superguy

LOL. Mass murder isn't a real threat in our world? Um....OK.
RamonSuarez - 7/10/2012, 8:37 AM
Damn Tainted87 OWNED @Just1Superguy right there.
OnLeatherWings - 7/10/2012, 8:37 AM
hes a bit too old now and quite a bit heavier. find someone else to play hank pym. this guys time has passed.
figuresmaniac - 7/10/2012, 8:38 AM
@Tainted87 what a perfect reply....
Theodora - 7/10/2012, 8:39 AM
also,

THE FIRE RISES.
SuperDude001 - 7/10/2012, 8:39 AM
Although Fillion is too old for Green Lantern and Uncharted's Drake, I do think he could still be an amazing Hank Pym. Not only could he become a bigger star in a solo movie but with his talent and Edgar Wright still directing AntMan I think that combo would just be great and let him do Avengers 2 without appearing too little a name.

Jolt17 @ Though having said what I just have, Dever would be so awesome for the character.

Also whoever thinks Andrew Garfield isn't attractive...well like how? He's incredibly hot! (and I'm not the only one that thinks that).
And on another side note, two Serenity sequels would be awesome (although the TV show shouldn't come back)
Vapes - 7/10/2012, 8:39 AM
He would be once he's on the other side of it.
RamonSuarez - 7/10/2012, 8:40 AM
LOL. Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire is Hal Jordan's love interest. Fail again.
RamonSuarez - 7/10/2012, 8:45 AM
@Just1Superguy -

Don't you know anything about comic books?

How can you not know Carrol Ferris/Star Sapphire is Hal Jordan's/Green Lantern's girlfriend in the comics? Even the movie established this point.
GUNSMITH - 7/10/2012, 8:45 AM
GUNSMITH - 7/10/2012, 8:46 AM
DOES IT BLEND?
DanteSparda - 7/10/2012, 8:46 AM
@Just1Superguy

HahaHaHaahAhAhaHAaHaHaa thanks, you made this thread much more funny!

Also I think is better for him to play a woman beating character (seriously we will never going to see that in movies) that a super hero whose weakness is the color yellow.

sydneygill - 7/10/2012, 8:47 AM
that's funny, do you really think he would outright "reject" the role of Antman or a spot in the Avengers? He's just being realistic and makes excuses for his fans, not for himself even. He knows that he's not famous enough (he really isn't) and moreover he wouldn't have the time what with filming Castle 10 months a year and all. He is just realistic and tries to calm his fanboys' expectations. I love the guy to death, but I don't hold my breath waiting for his "breakthrough", I would more look forward to his smaller but awesome projects, with Whedon or with someone else.
RamonSuarez - 7/10/2012, 8:48 AM
@Just1Superguy

"You fail comparing Hal Jordan hitting a woman trying to kill him to Hank Pym beating his wife and abusing her just because he's a [frick]tard."

Actually, in Pym's case the offense was less excusable since he had been suffering from a psychotic break and needed care - it was well established in the comic. In Jordan's case its clear he was of clear mind and was just being a chauvanistic asshole. So, again, you fail.
HavocPrime - 7/10/2012, 8:49 AM
Why does Hank Pym have to be young? Just throwing that out there as RDJ is 47 but he is ok to play Tony Stark.

I can see Nathan as Pym, as does a load of other people, at least audition and try before giving it up.
Tainted87 - 7/10/2012, 8:50 AM
@Just1Superguy
You're just digging, digging, digging.

The writers gave us Hal slapping the shit out of Carol, the circumstances specifically designed to have him NOT use his ring, but slap her around instead. It's pretty cut and dry.
RamonSuarez - 7/10/2012, 8:52 AM
LOL. Apparently I know Star Sapphire better than you do. You were unaware she was Carol Ferris.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/10/2012, 8:53 AM
"NOW I am starting to get worried ! The Dark Knight Rises embargo was supposed to be lifted June 29th. The studio just ignored it and we don't even have one honest or full review of this film. The Avengers had critic reviews 30 days to opening day.

TDKR less then two weeks and nothing except twitters from the Studio paid people."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really? 30 days prior? Really? Reviews weren't out until a little before a week prior to the films release. We did get some foreign reviews because oversea's first. Two reviews for the film were published April 19th, and the rest started tricking in around April 26th. Check Rotten Tomatoes they you know, date all there reviews. Keep grasping at straws haters. I doubt Nolan paid of Empire, the LA Times etc.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/10/2012, 8:54 AM
Anyway I have no clue who this guy is, but Hemsworth wasn't a big name actor and he's in it. So if this guys good he deserves a shot.
RorMachine - 7/10/2012, 8:57 AM
No, Chris Evans has never played a rapist, That's my theory shot to shit then I guess!
Tainted87 - 7/10/2012, 8:59 AM
Bizarro, he has Joss as his avatar. Sarcasm mode.
