UPDATE: Jessica Biel Offered The Role Of "Viper" In THE WOLVERINE

With filming expected to begin soon, Total Recall actress Jessica Biel has apparently been offered the role of Viper in Fox's upcoming Wolverine movie. More details after the jump.

20th Century Fox is currently casting roles for their next comic book movie The Wolverine, which sees Hugh Jackman donning the mutant's claws once again. Will Yun Lee (who will play the villainous Silver Samurai), Brian Tee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila Fukushima and Tao Okamoto were said to be cast in the anticipated film. With production expected to begin within the next few weeks, we have more casting news for the James Mangold-directed movie (which is set in Japan).

Twitch has learned that Jessica Biel - previously seen in The A-Team, Blade: Trinity and in next month's Total Recall remake - has been offered the role of Viper in The Wolverine. Viper is described by the site as "a complex character who at one point was a peer of Logan's as well as an enemy. She was a major player in criminal organization Hydra and, in one story arc, blackmailed Logan/Wolverine into marrying her." Last year, it was reported that the character would be "the Caucasian secretary for Japan's Minister of Justice" in the film. There are three characters named Viper in the Marvel universe; it's possible that The Wolverine's Viper is a brand new character created specifically for the movie.

UPDATE: Deadline has confirmed that Biel has been cast as Victoria/Viper in The Wolverine. The site also reveals that the role is a big one.

Jessica Biel can't act, when will people realize this. She is incredibly hot, but as far as acting chops goes she is on par with Megan Fox.

I know it wont happen, but I really hope the Wolverine film franchise will just stop for about five years, find a new guy to play Wolverine and make something actually good.

oh i wouldnt go THAT far. megan fox is a glorified trailerpark queen. biel wont be getting awards on her acting but she's a bit more than a model.

viper was more of a cap character to me. but it seems like hydra is done so they had their chance, now it's fox's turn to completely water her down and just put her name on a pretty face

Like Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and the Skrulls, Viper/Madame Hydra is one of those grey area characters. While she was initially a Captain America character, she also has ties to Wolverine and the X-Men. Due to the vagueness of Fox's X-Men license that states they are "able to use any character closely associated with the property that helps them tell the story they want to tell", Viper is available to them if they choose to use her. But because the character isn't explicitly named in the agreements, Marvel can also use her.

Maybe I am looking to much into this if fox can use a hydra head huncho and which hydra is clearly in Marvel studios hands then it may also be possible for Marvel Studios to use certain characters that are licensed off to other studios if they choose too or else I am calling fowl

She's hot but she can't act, I hope she doesn't land the role unless this Viper is an emotionless character that doesn't need a lot of acting.

About Viper, don't complain about her being in this movie and not in one of Captain America's, I'm sure Marvel can use this character too because there are a lot of sharing right to some characters (Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Kingpin, even the skrulls I think).

Regarding Viper in the movie at some point in comics Viper hired Silver Samurai to be her bodyguard and later her lover, also she with the aid of Silver Samurai tried to kill Mariko after the death of Shingen, she is a Black Widow level spy and a master of disguise so that secretary of the minister role could be just a facade.

I Remember when I first heard fox was going to do a Xmen movie i was so happy then it came out and it was good then mmediocre 5 or should I say six movie later I feel like the only thing were gotten is appetizers some of you praise Xmen first Class it was good but it wasn't Xmen prof x walking with hair Havoc in the team in the 60 or whatever years before his older brother and let's just say the real Magneto would kill both of his movie counterparts before you can blink it just annoying now Sony has done better with spiderman but in the back of my mine I still know theres a better option with Marvel studios along his fellow superheros so its just annoying to me ...fox just needs to give it up because so far the only failed superhero movie in 2012 has came from them cause I am sure TDKR and Dredd will make there money

I acknowledge the hotness (as a man, it's impossible not to). But I also have to acknowledge that she is never a good addition to a cast in a movie like this. A Team stopped dead every time she showed up on screen. In fact, I'm convinced you could edit out nearly every scene she's in save for about 10 minutes attached to the actual plot, and the movie would lose nothing. Blade 3 - nuff said. Now true, those movie had story/plot issues, but she was a detriment that was separate and apart from those.

@RFBD: She's been in three holiday movies, one of them a Christmas themed flick, how can anyone mess those up? Then again, I'd heard 'New Year's Eve' was f'n HORRIBLE. And I have to say, 'A-Team' and 'Next' are guilty pleasures of mine :) I swear I'm the only person I know that likes 'Next'.

She is hot and not a completely terrible actress like some would say, but why? They just seem to be throwing in characters for the hell of it.

Also I hope what some others have said is true in that this character is like Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Skrulls and etc, and Marvel can use her still too. Otherwise this is some bullshit!

Well, she isn't a random character they threw in the movie (unlike Gambit in X-Men O: Wolverine), originally she plays a minor character in the japan saga as it have been stated before; this saga is based on the Chris Claremont and Frank Miller 5 issues mini-series and on some of the Uncanny X-Men comic books also of Chris Claremont that were released after the mini-series.

When did the consensus on Biel become her being a terrible actress? I always thought she was average and had a couple of good roles under her belt.

I get wat Durf is sayin tho. It does seem theyre throwing in characters, albeit not random but depending on the direction theyre taking his japanese travels it could be unnecessary.

@Dante Gambit wasnt really random, if im not mistaken, Remy had ties with Logan during his time in Weapon X didnt he? Then again I dont acknowledge XOW for being a movie.
