Actor Tom Cruise recently wrapped production on Oblivion, a science fiction epic based on the graphic novel by Joseph Kosinski (director of TRON: Legacy), who's also helming the movie. The film (Which also stars Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo) was originally slated for a July 10th, 2013; however, Universal Pictures then moved the project to an April 26th release after slating Jurassic Park 3D for a July release. Now, Variety's Jeff Sneider reports that Universal has set yet another release date for Oblivion. The sci-fi film is now slated for April 19th, 2013, a week earlier than the April 26th date. Additionally, Sneider reveals that the movie will see an "IMAX Exclusive" a week before the primary theatrical version arrives.

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Joseph Kosinski is the guy who wrote the graphic novel (is it even released yet?) and he is directing it.

So, I guess you could say it is original.

I'm looking forward to this one.

On the other hand, Bourne Legacy was just terrible.

why do we not have the bible in comicbook form?
rocky - 8/11/2012, 5:10 AM
Kosinski actually had the script ready and all but decided to do a graphic novel first to make it an easier sell since it seems that "CBM" now adds cachet to properties

So yeah it's original.

Rocky-

Where did you find that information? I've checked radical publishing's website as well as googling and Wikipedia, and I can't find anything about the graphic novel or when t may come out. I remember seeing it on their site a couple years ago, but it is no longer there.

wards@ Aronofsky´s film is based on a graphic novel not a bible.

Check it out from here.
