20th Century Fox's upcoming film The Wolverine, which sees Hugh Jackman reprising his role as the most famous X-Man, is currently filming in Australia. Recently, a Facebook page for the James Mangold-directed movie (inspired by Frank Miller's Japanese saga) was launched, and among the things included was the first official plot synopsis for the film. It's not very revealing, but check it out below:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

The Wolverine also stars Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova and Hiroyuki Sanada, among others. The movie is set to hit theaters July 26th, 2013.

thalidomide - 8/16/2012, 7:34 AM
lmao, it's X-Men origins all over again!!!
JorLBola - 8/16/2012, 7:38 AM
I assume that the story takes place after "Origins" So it must be closer to the present day, may be in the 80's or 90's
MisterJay - 8/16/2012, 7:38 AM
@coloso .. i think wolverine is comming back to japan... i think the past wolverine will be the one we saw in the past set pics, where he was running from a japanesse fortress in ww2 ... maybe he is just comming back to find out about his past
ComicsBornAndBred - 8/16/2012, 7:38 AM
@Coloso - ur right man. If the movies epic, one continuity error wontnmatter. In some ,ythology, logan gotbhis claws early on. U can changebhistorybsomewhat i guess. But being a fan, i dont like it.
ComicsBornAndBred - 8/16/2012, 7:39 AM
The story is in ww2. Hes in a concentration camp. Theyve stated it. I agree with misterjay above. Hes returning to japan to rediscover his past.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/16/2012, 7:39 AM
Doesnt say much so im not gonna judge yet.
JorLBola - 8/16/2012, 7:40 AM

theboywonder - 8/16/2012, 7:40 AM
That's not vague or anything. It looks like it'll be good cuz of Japan but I would have killed to see Aronovsky direct this
butter313 - 8/16/2012, 7:43 AM
sound like the last samurai
Fogs - 8/16/2012, 7:44 AM
ok, can it get more generic than that?
JorLBola - 8/16/2012, 7:44 AM
@ MagnusHeros22
WW2 I hope only in flash-back scenes, In that case it would be a prequel of the prequel...
KingKirby75 - 8/16/2012, 7:47 AM
Clearly the whole film will not take place in WW2 era Japan.
Anybody seen the set photos where a long haired Logan is said to be confronting hunters (wearing modern hunting gear)?
And as far as Logan not having his adamantium... Have you folks actually read the Frank Miller series?
Why not wait until the film hits screens before judging it so quickly. At least it's in the hands of a versatile filmmaker who can deal with action scenes.
weaponX2 - 8/16/2012, 7:48 AM
if they're doing the Mariko Yashida storyline...he definitely had his adamantium
YOUNGBL00D - 8/16/2012, 7:50 AM
Guys I know u have a right to hate on this franchise, but the director helping this film has a pretty good background
kevberg - 8/16/2012, 7:51 AM
@coloso
the movie is based on the Frank Miller / Chris Claremont mini-series.
He did indeed have adamantium...thats actually a good deal what the mini was about. Damn , please know what your talking about before trashing the movie.

JorLBola - 8/16/2012, 7:52 AM
@KingKirby7 OK THEN
kevberg - 8/16/2012, 7:56 AM
@magnosheroes22

No you're both wrong .

The mini was about Logan coming to japan to Mariko and Wolverine looking to master his rage and being dishonored by killing the guy who mastered the adamantium bonding process. He had the adamantium by them as he was a member of the x-men at that point.

CaptainDC - 8/16/2012, 8:06 AM
Looking forward to this movie, but this sounds boring as hell
HeadPool420 - 8/16/2012, 8:10 AM
If based on the comics this movie will end in a downer with Logan not getting his honor and losing another love.
gambgel - 8/16/2012, 8:13 AM
I hate how most Fox plots involve the word "Epic", when we all know how all that ends.

Anyway, ready for the First Class sequel
LiquidSmoke - 8/16/2012, 8:14 AM
i just want an Omega Red Wolverine movie
deanwilkins - 8/16/2012, 8:14 AM
Do you guys not read the comics? You're so quick to bash this fil
without a clue as to what you're whining about.
LiquidSmoke - 8/16/2012, 8:15 AM
Well its not like that last one was good
OdinsBeard - 8/16/2012, 8:21 AM
and here..we....go
LAXtremest - 8/16/2012, 8:28 AM
Origins would not have been so bad had they not tried to force feed random characters in and completely raped Deadpool.
brownbuffalo - 8/16/2012, 8:48 AM
The Miller Claremont mini-series was so epic and I do believe it changed the industry somewhat, just like MIller did with his original Daredevil run. I would love to see that storyline on the screen. There's not much you'd have to change in order to appeal to the general audience, but Fox in all their ignorance, will most likely screw this up! That my Geek friends is a damn shame. I was in high school when I bought and read that mini-series. It defined Wolverine's character and paved the road for other Wolverine writers and artists.
thewolfx - 8/16/2012, 8:50 AM
cmon you people had to expect atleast one continuety error

expecially after xmen fist ass.
SimyJo - 8/16/2012, 8:55 AM
Of course he can't still have his bone claws in this film. Whatever the comic book continuity it would make for pretty stop 'n' start fight scenes conceptually when its bone vs samurai steel.
marvel72 - 8/16/2012, 9:01 AM
just be as good as x-men 2 & i'll be happy.
MidnightSpider - 8/16/2012, 9:07 AM
Looking forward to the way this one is portrayed. Hopefully it won't be as bad as Origins.
PaulRom - 8/16/2012, 9:28 AM
I'm not concerned about any continuity issues in this film, since it's gonna be stand alone.
spidey1994 - 8/16/2012, 9:28 AM
Though it does sound interesting, I'll only give a shit until it's rated R or until I see a trailer.
OtakuPapi - 8/16/2012, 9:31 AM
I wonder why so many people hate origins outside of the obvious reasons it was highly enjoyable.Sabretooth alone makes it worth watching more than once.During that era of CBM you couldn't have had high expectations for it to be Canon faithful. The continuity of X-men had been long screwed up beyond repair, i don't get all the hate for the origin.Heck i was happy to just get a Wolverine movie, it's not like he is Batman and Superman and its a known fact a new one is coming out eventual. So much hate not enough love
