Via On Location Vacations, four set photos from Darren Aronofsky's anticipated Biblical epic Noah are now online. The movie, which stars Russell Crowe as the Ark building titular character, is currently filming in Upper Brookville, NY. A life sized ark has been under construction in the area for nearly two months. Aronofsky was spotted on set, as well as actors Logan Lerman (who plays Noah's son, Ham) and Madison Davenport (who plays Ham's wife, Na'el). The film's title treatment and a glimpse at some of the costumes have also been revealed on the set.

NOAH is a close adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood. The screenplay was written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel and revised by Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter John Logan (GLADIATOR, HUGO).

Many thanks to Collider for the heads up.

Noah also stars Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Kevin Durand and Douglas Booth. The film, distributed by Paramount Pictures, is set to hit theaters March 28th, 2014.

Again... Its not straight bible movie. Its based on a graphic novel and its gonna have post apocalyptic setup.

I for one cant wait to see what kind of artistic take Aronofsky comes up with. Really liked The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler and Black Swan.
Nomis1800 - 8/31/2012, 1:53 PM
I hate Logan Lerman!
jessepostal - 8/31/2012, 1:59 PM
Again? Didn't know you said that already, my bad
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 8/31/2012, 2:16 PM
Wait, so it's a close adaptation of the Biblical story, while it's being an adaptation of a post-apocalyptic Graphic Novel?

loshanagan - 8/31/2012, 2:20 PM
Actually, how they dress is pretty open ended. My math teacher (Christian school) thinks that before the time of the flood, people were actually really advanced in technology and brainpower. The flood destroyed all that, save one family.
thanos83 - 8/31/2012, 2:23 PM
why no black people???
Ranger14 - 8/31/2012, 2:25 PM
That is where my confusion lies. They are promoting it as a close adaptation of the biblical story. Is it a close adaptation of the biblical story or the graphic novel? I wouldn't consider the graphic novel a close adaptation of the the biblical story.

I imagine they are wanting to pander to the Christians to get them into the theater. That may end up backfiring on them, if it isn't a close adaptation to the biblical story.
JerBear - 8/31/2012, 2:28 PM
I think an adaption of the biblical story would get a lot more revenue, it's more well known after all.
soms - 8/31/2012, 2:55 PM
I don't thnk this movie will be from a Christian perspective. Darren Aronofsky is Jewish, one of the screenwriters is Jewish, and Logan Lerman is Jewish, too.
Ranger14 - 8/31/2012, 3:04 PM
^^^The Jews believe in Noah's Ark from a biblical perspective. It's pretty much the same story.
KaneVonDoom - 8/31/2012, 3:09 PM
There's a lot of evidence of a pre flood civilization that dates back further than the stories of the bible. Egyptians, Greeks, Sumerians, South Americans, Ancient Chinese and Indian mythology all talk about an older civilization and a giant flood. Not only that but they believe many of those ancient sites were built upon much much older sites.

Puma Punku in Peru is believed to be at least 12,000 years old.
Goodfella - 8/31/2012, 3:15 PM
There was no Christianity when this took place so I don't see why people are concerned that it will be from a "Christian persepctive". However, Christians believe that the Old Testament is the inspired word of God.
jessepostal - 8/31/2012, 3:20 PM
Christianity grew out of judaism, or so they say, who's to say what really happened with anything. This could all be there "superhero" stories:)
thanos83 - 8/31/2012, 3:31 PM
also,so far.. the fallen angels in the graphic novel(especially samyasa/satan)..are portrayed way too sympathetically. aronofski almost completely glosses over the fact that the reason Satan and the 200 fallen watchers rebeled against heaven in the firstplace is because they were told by god that they were 2 bowdown and be submissive to the rule Adam/mankind.Believing themselves 2 be "above them in every natural way,as well as feeling outright betrayed by their creator, they rebuke and turn on the humanity, thus igniting a terrible war between god and his best and brightest angels with humans caught in the middle.as well as humans being hunted down inslaved, and eaten by these now vengeful deity s. instead he has human beings as the betrayers of the fallen angels, all after their going out of there way to show us the ripe fruits of civilization, while sacrificing their heavenly estate in the process..week
Ha1frican - 8/31/2012, 3:33 PM
@jesspostal why the "or so they say" bit? The first christians were disciples of a man who was jewish. Seems there isnt a question whether not it grew from judaism.
Spidey31 - 8/31/2012, 4:35 PM
Judaism was the first abrahimic relgion, after that Christianity was derived out of Judaism and then later Islam was derived out of Christianity. There all connected and have the same core beliefs but where Jesus came from is what separates them.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/31/2012, 4:35 PM
jessepostal@ I said again cause its been said many times here already but i guess everyone cant stay on a card with everything that happens here.

Did i enunciate it right? My English is sucker sometimes.
Tao1 - 8/31/2012, 4:39 PM
I hope it doesnt dissapoint
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/31/2012, 4:43 PM
I think the movie is gonna take the most inspiration from the graphic novel.
jessepostal - 8/31/2012, 5:12 PM
@ha1frican, the "or so they say" was ment as a how would we really know, what if there was something before or during judiasm that wasn't taught in a book of hand me down stories? Not everything was documented than like it is today. You have to think of things like that because honestly it's true. We don't and will never know a lot of things,Its mostly he said she said
jessepostal - 8/31/2012, 5:16 PM
@alex, i figured bud, ya this is my first noah article reading. Was kinda hoping it would lean more towards the scripture
jojofmd - 8/31/2012, 5:42 PM
@Spidey31, Islam was not "derived" from Christianity. Actually Islam traces it's roots back to Abraham. Specifically his first child Ishmael and view him as a patriarch. However, Islam has Five pillars, one God, and his prophet Muhammad. The three religions share a common ancestry, but are very different.

@ Just1Superguy

Yes of course, but unfortunately I am on a tight Schedule...
Harris1 - 8/31/2012, 7:02 PM
@jessepostal, you're absolutely right, the bible stories are their superhero stories. They tell the tale of celestial happenings between the constellations and the sun, moon and earth. The story of Thor has the exact same stuff as the bible. People are to blind and ignorant and easily led to see. If a blind man lead a blind man won't they both fall into a pit. You hit the nail on the head though my friend.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/31/2012, 7:03 PM
Well it could be leaning towards that too. Who knows what they are doing there? ;D

We´ll see!
jessepostal - 8/31/2012, 7:11 PM
@harris,As did you! It's good to see that there is someone else who's eyes and ears are open to what makes us tick!
Harris1 - 8/31/2012, 7:27 PM
@jessepostal, thanks my friend
SuspenseSmith - 8/31/2012, 7:36 PM
The Fountain was good at being "vaguely" religious without being "jewish" or "christian." I think that his approach might be very similar to the tone and and themes of that movie in this. Very "not-in-your-face" type of thing. C'mon. This guy did black swan for crying out loud.
SuspenseSmith - 8/31/2012, 7:43 PM
If it assumed that there is a God and that He is all powerful and can do anything, why would you ever ask how could He have done something?

It's God. If God is God then the "how" is probably incomprehensible to a mortal mind anyway. The "why" is always more important if you care about real spirituality.

It's like having a 5 year old saying that calculus is not real because he doesn't get it.

Limiting an infinite being to finite rules is stupid.

Assuming if you really believe that He does or could exist, of course.
SuspenseSmith - 8/31/2012, 7:50 PM
One thing though, no one ever said that the animals were full grown adults. Also, "beasts of every kind" can be interrupted millions of different ways. Does every kind mean every species, or one of every phylum or class or family? Does every mean every kind on Earth or every kind that was near Noah?

Besides Genesis wasn't written to give a full account of everything. There were other books (that were lost over time) that explained things in more detail. The purpose of Genesis was to track lineage from Adam down to Moses essentially. It's a glorified family tree essentially with side not information on events that mattered to passing down.

Again, a 5 year old arguing with a math professor comes to mind.
maxxgone - 8/31/2012, 7:51 PM
@ gambit-freak/others wondering

aronofsky worked on a graphic novel which told a fictionalized account of the noah tale. this film will be an adaptation of that, NOT a 'close adaptation of the bible story' itself. it's never been said that would be the case, so im not sure why that idea keeps popping up.

whatever the final result, we are in for a helluva show.
SuspenseSmith - 8/31/2012, 7:52 PM
We're all the "5 year olds." And God is the math professor in this metaphor. I'm not insulting anyone here. And just like I'm sure the Professor wouldn't hate the 5 year old for being too young to understand, we're too "mortal" to understand.

@stigmartyr, they've already figured out how they built the pyramids blocks and have duplicated the technique. Go to YouTube and search pyramids and geopolymer. Joseph davidovits is the guy behind it. It's simply alchemical techniques.
patriautism - 8/31/2012, 9:02 PM
I am Jewish and we even have a day of celebration for Noah's ark after the flooding ceased during the days of Sivian..
Every story that is in the old testament is in and Torah celebrated by Jews even more that were left out because it didn't fit the catholic idea of what should be in the Bible.

So a Jewish person telling a story about Noah is likely to be more accurate than a Christian telling the story.

Just Saying..
TheSoulEater - 8/31/2012, 9:31 PM
Who's she?

Is she legal?
Super12 - 8/31/2012, 9:49 PM
@thanos83 - is that quote from the graphic novel? Cause it's not from Scripture.

Also, SuspenseSmith has made the best point so far. It is so amusing to listen to people declare in all confidence the "fact" that there is no God. They sit at their computer basking in their own supreme wisdom over these obviously inferior and incompetent fools who claim that there is a God. I mean, how is that possible? My two semesters of intro to philosophy and Western Civ have difinitively proven that all religions are exactly the same and the mere utterance of the possibility of a diety's existence is deservedly punishable by humiliation and scorn. That's how these people think, and it's how every generation of man has thought at some point in all of human history. We've always thought we know it all and there can't possibly be any more to learn. Right? Why would the earth be round that's stupid. Why would the universe be expanding, that doesn't make sense. Why Does the supernatural exist, that's just crazy. Right?

Anyway. Sorry to get on a soap box. This is supposed to be about the CBM. Which should be great and I'm looking forward to it, and it's gonna cause some controversy cause it won't be just like the bible which will turn some folks off. too bad.
LaputaHeir - 8/31/2012, 9:55 PM
Hmmm...A "close adaptation"...???

Then...where are all the Black ppl???
Harris1 - 9/1/2012, 1:04 AM
@Super12- The basic misconception is that the diety is seperate from man. All religions tell us is we are the diety made flesh. We are the invisible (subatomic aspect) made visible. Its just basic science and cosmology. Having knowledge of our Atomic geneology. How when you trace all things backwards, you'll find in our very make up, that we were all once SUNS of God. So, if you want to see God, look in a mirror. Every man steeped in knowledge of his celestial origins should be able to proclaim as the Christ did,"It is as you say, I and my Father are one."
PaulRom - 9/1/2012, 4:01 AM
Let's see..

-Before the Tower of Babel, everyone was of the same race. But after God caused everyone to speak in different languages at Babel, people scatterred to various places across the world.
-Since this was before Pangea, all the countries of the Earth were formed together, so Noah was able to get animals like kangaroos without going overseas.
-Back then, siblings were allowed to be married. Unusual, I know.
-The Ark was so large that it was able to hold two of every kind of animal. End of story.
Super12 - 9/1/2012, 6:46 AM
@Harris1- Case in point. That right there is the perfect example of what im talking about. The audacity of man's hubris to declare himself, a finite being, the master and definer of the eternal. We are not gods, and to be deceived to think that we are above our creator is just an attempt to lower God from his rightful place of authority in our lives and eventually replace him with Humanism. That we are the be all and end all, which is a joke that ends in us missing out on the greatest thing in life, an actual relationship with God. Dang it! I'm preaching again...sorry CBMers.
Harris1 - 9/1/2012, 9:10 AM
@Super1, you're just repeating what someone else has told you. You've done no research into the bible and the sacred knowledge hidden within. You still cling to what's only revealed on the surface. You believe in talking serpents, flaming swords, that a man could walk on water or be the light of the whole world. So you and your hubris miss all the cosmological science underneath these tales. Did you know quantum physics is in the bible? No you probably don't. You're too busy chastising others, trying to tell people what they are and what they aren't. You sound just like the chief priest who refused to believe the Christ when he claimed his celestial birth right. Modern science has caught up with the hidden science in the scriptures. Science state that we all are stars made flesh. Just as jesus is the sun of god mad flesh, every man can make the same claim. Do you even know the very sub atomic particles that make up the carbon atom and molecule? Do you know that dying Suns produce carbon atoms as they try and stave off death? Do you know that you are comprised of these same atoms? So that means a Suns of God had to die for carbon based life forms to exist on earth. And it also means that before are atomic make up powered us, they powered stars that gave life to worlds undreamed of. This atomic geneology is why the first man was called Adam. He was created on the 6th day because the carbon atom is the 6th element on a periodic table. Mans number is 666 because the carbon atom is comprised of 6 electrons, 6 protons, and 6 neutrons. We are eternal and have always been here, in one form or another. From subatomic to atomic and molecular and cellular. We are the ever changing, ever evolving, ever living gods of the cosmos. The bible tells us the kingdom of heaven is in every man. The very sub atomic particles that combined to form everything in the universe can be found in man. This knowledge and understanding allows me to make the same claim as Christ, I and the father(Greek meaning =source) are one. You lack proper understanding of this knowledge and your own biological make up, so you can't make this claim. Seek knowledge Above all things.
New International Version (©1984)
Proverbs 18:15 The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.

It's not hard to realize how limited our capacity to perceive the reality in which we live in is. No amount of data collection, theorems, evidence, or facts that we could ever possibly get and understand can never explain a fraction of what is really out there. Why then do we limit our concept of what is possible to such laughably pathetic scales of our own inferior minds.
Screwger - 9/2/2012, 1:37 AM
Graphic Novel story is much interesting then Biblical and better drawn) Also its darker and Mad Max'y?
Screwger - 9/2/2012, 1:44 AM
Did people still believe that Noah exist or Moses parts the water of red sea??? BTW the coolest guy in Bible is Jesus 'cause he knew Kung-Fu.
