First Still From ENDER'S GAME Featuring Harrison Ford And Asa Butterfield

The first official still from the upcoming film adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel (directed by X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Gavin Hood) has been released, featuring stars Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford. Hit the jump to check it out.

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distiguising himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military's next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he's trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.




Ender's Game is set to hit theaters November 1st, 2013.

Yep, anybody who compares this to another movie or trashes it as some B storyline is in for a suprsie. This whole series of books was fantastic! Speaker for the Dead! Xenocide! Bring it on!

@BackwardGalaxy- Uh, that's Harrison Ford. He's kind of a big deal and slightly too old to be considered jail bait. But I agree with you, he is rather handsome. I think that helped him to get a few of his previous roles.

Probably one of the best books I have picked up. I cannot wait to see this movie in action. I want to see the game they play against each other practically flying laser tag at battle school. An hopefully they show him leading the battle an defeating the formics.

Sorry if my views piss you off, but I just feel too many changes were made from the source material. And I have very little faith that the studio will put out a movie with the brutality from the book. I just think the studio will sacrifice the story the fans of the book loved in efforts to make the story more broadly appealing to all demographics and it winds up a family movie more than a great sci-fi.

I love the book and just dislike when studios screw up the adaptations. What is so asshole about that?

Everyone on this board has opinions that are theirs and that they won't change for the talking heads like you, because those views might not be popular.

I just wish Orson Scott Card wasn't such a homophobic racist. Other than that, I am really looking forward to wanting to see this film but not seeing it on principle.

To people saying Card is a "homophobic racist," he's not. He's definitely not racist. Some may consider him to be a "homophobe." But he sees homosexuality as a sin, just as he sees premarital sex as a sin, drinking, drugs, murder, theft, coveting, etc...

Here's a quote I saw about people's opinions and insulting someone for their opinions.

"His political opinions are HIS political OPINIONS. His opinion. Let me rephrase, OPINION. Why does he not have a right to his opinion, an opinion which is formed based on ones life experiences that allow oneself to reason with reality more appropriately for the way their mind functions thanks to their experiences in life. You don't call someone a piece of shit for their experiences in life that lead to their opinions. You are not a piece of shit for your opinion, but for that statement you are."

I think it's stupid how saying ANYTHING remotely in opposition to homosexuality labels you a "homophobe." Typical tactic of someone who has no counter argument, just insults and demeaning. People who call others "homophobes" tend to be just as intolerant as those they insult.

@SuspenseSmith In1990, Card called for laws that ban gay sex to "remain on the books... to be used when necessary to send a clear message that those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens within that society." He has since claimed a change in his overly-radical view, but this is where the criticism comes from.

As much as I have been waiting for the book series to be adapted into a feature length live action film I am eager to see a Halo movie.

Yeah, I really hope that they don't bastardize this movie too much. But with Gavin Hood at the helm, I'm not holding my breath.

@DoIlookLIkeIGiveA[frick] - Not trying to be a dick here, but I'm pretty sure a lot more people have heard of Ender's Game than have heard of Guyver.

Though the Halo movie would be good. Hopefully the Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell movies are good/make money and then studios see that video game adaptations don't have to suck and can make more money if they just put in a little effort

That's going to far, I think. I don't agree with homosexuality, but using the law to force people to be "moral" doesn't work and never will work, nor should it be implemented.

There is a difference between standing up for what you believe is right and forcing those beliefs on others. Regardless, I usually don't let people's political/religious beliefs stop me from enjoying their work.

There are plenty of writers/directors/actors that have the worst views on things that make great books/movies/music etc.

And just as he is free to believe these things, I am free to say that, on principle, I will not be seeing an adaptation of his works due to those beliefs he holds that would suggest an intolerance to OTHERS, for things that cannot be controlled, not acts or habits.

Freedom of belief and opinion goes both ways.
