Due to all of Marvel Studios' recent releases being post-converted to 3D (with Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World confirmed to be released in the format), this news shouldn't be very surprising at all. Marvel has confirmed on its official site that 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy will be released in 3D when they hit theaters. Winter Soldier, the highly anticipated sequel to 2011's The First Avenger, stars Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson, and is scheduled to be released April 4th, 2014. Anthony and Joe Russo (Community) are directing, and filming will commence this Spring. Guardians Of The Galaxy, a space epic directed by Super's James Gunn, is currently in the casting phase, with many actors testing for the lead role of Star-Lord/Peter Quill. It will be shooting this summer for an August 1st, 2014 release. As stated before, 2013's Iron Man 3 (May 3rd) and Thor: The Dark World (November 8th) are set to be released in 3D as well. The only two announced films from Marvel Studios that have yet to be confirmed for 3D are 2015's The Avengers 2 (May 1st) and Ant-Man (November 6th). But since Marvel has released all of its recent films in the format, expect these two to be as well.

GoILL - 1/14/2013, 10:56 AM

SageMode - 1/14/2013, 11:00 AM
Phase 2 is gonna be CRAZY....in a good way.
marvel72 - 1/14/2013, 11:01 AM
didn't see that coming, not expecting the avengers kind of numbers.i think iron man 3 has the best chance to hit a billion.
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 1/14/2013, 11:01 AM

ATrueHero1987 - 1/14/2013, 11:05 AM
Yea, I'm not surprised but why can't they film some of these IN 3D, especially GOTG?!
PaulRom - 1/14/2013, 11:11 AM
I agree, Marvel72. The popularity of all the characters in Avengers is heavily increased now, so the next batch of solo movies should be bigger than Phase One. I don't see Guardians being quite as big though, unless the marketing is amazing.

never been really impressed with 3D so will 90% choose the 2D option

I'd prefer they spent that part of the budget on special fx or Imax scenes
spidey1994 - 1/14/2013, 11:12 AM
Here's a video of James Gunn talking about 3D.
LAXtremest - 1/14/2013, 11:20 AM
Do they show these in just IMAX? Cause if I want to see it in IMAX it always been 3D so far...
marvel72 - 1/14/2013, 11:23 AM
@ batz11

i've only seen two films in 3D transformers 3 & the amazing spider-man.if these movies were shot in 3D i'd probably watch in that format.

No shit? -__-
Kingdork - 1/14/2013, 11:51 AM
Post converted 3D really improved over the past few years. I saw Cap and Avengers, and didn't notice any difference between those two and TASM which was shot in 3D.
kevberg - 1/14/2013, 11:52 AM
what exactly qualifies the Community directors to do CA:TWS ?

CA:TFA is one of my faves because it captures steves spirit well...But i fear for the sequel...
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 11:57 AM
GotG is gonna be [frick]ing the B.O. in the @$$ when it's released, man....

Kingdork - 1/14/2013, 11:58 AM
@kevberg - I asked myself the same question. But I gotta trust Kevin Feige on this one. If he chose them, it's for a reason and I can't wait to see what that reason is.
Kingdork - 1/14/2013, 12:01 PM
@TheAmazingSpidey63 - I too can't [frick]ing wait man!!! Though I fear they'll go with Bendis' lame ass version of the GoG's suits. I heard something about that, but it wasn't confirmed.
Ranger14 - 1/14/2013, 12:26 PM
The Life of Pi has changed my perspective on 3D. There are some films that 3D can improve the viewing experience and it certainly did with this film.
cartman87 - 1/14/2013, 12:32 PM
I hope they are also released in 2D . I wont be watching in 3D .
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 1/14/2013, 12:36 PM
All this recent Cap, Iron Man, Thor and GOTG news and NOTHING ON ANT-MAN WHAT THE [frick] MARVEL AND EDGAR WRIGHT?
Kingdork - 1/14/2013, 12:58 PM
@BrotherStarkofMABMindz - Wright is shooting another movie right now.
Maximus101 - 1/14/2013, 1:44 PM
God I wish they would get rid of this 3D crap, just a money grab. Making almost a billion per movie is not enough? Anywho i am looking forward to some good movies this year, should be between iron man 3 and man of steel for my cbm of the year. GOTG and captain America do not interest me in the slightest.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 3:11 PM
@Uni - Haha, same way I feel, brosef! I never thought that I would see a [frick]ing GotG film in my lifetime. Hell, I never thought that we'd see a freakin' appearance from Thanos for many years to come. The way it is all being set up is shaping up real nicely, and epically. Marvelously, is the word that fits it. And here I am, still handsome and young, and waiting to see this epic film. ;D
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 3:16 PM
@Kingdork - Really? Huh.... Well, let's just hope that what they go with for this film will work out in the end. This is definitely gonna be the crown jewel of Phase 2 of the BIG MCU. Well, either IM3 or GotG. Either way, we're definitely gonna be getting the goods for years to come. :)
OriginalGuardiansPlease - 1/14/2013, 5:03 PM

Pooh - 1/14/2013, 5:12 PM

I don't even understand why they bother to announce this stuff tbh. Once again, I will be passing on 3D. I've hated it forever then the Cirque de Soleil movie came out in 3D only and while some of it was cool my headache and pained eyes reminded me exactly why I loathe that format all over again.
TheAbomination - 1/14/2013, 6:26 PM
I am unbelievably pumped for GotG!! Bring on the casting news!!
Pooh - 1/14/2013, 8:04 PM
I'm not a fan of 3d either, unless it's Avatar.
Hazmat103 - 1/15/2013, 12:39 AM
anybody think this will be the only GotG movie?
Shamo - 1/15/2013, 6:08 AM
it will be if it flops. and since it will be facing off against DOFP which is pretty much a guarenteed blockbuster this movie will have be damn good if not a classic.
