Bryan Singer Talks X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, Says He'll "Correct A Few Things"

Director Bryan Singer talks more about his upcoming X-Men sequel, saying that it'll be so different that it's hardly a sequel. He also suggests that the film will be a reset of the movie series.

Speaking with Hit Fix while promoting Jack The Giant Slayer, director Bryan Singer yet again talks about his upcoming sequel X-Men: Days Of Future Past, which begins shooting in April. He reiterates prior comments on the follow-up to 2011's First Class using technology never used before in an X-Men film, and he also confirms that we'll see characters, story, etc. that we have yet to see in the franchise. In fact, Singer says that Days Of Future Past is more of its own thing than a sequel. "This movie's gonna be not only quite epic, 'Days of Future Past,' but it also takes place in completely different times than the 'X-Men' movies have taken place. There'll be new technology, new things we haven't seen before in 'X-Men' films. Certain characters and certain story and certain drama that hasn't be done yet, so it's not so much sequel. It's more of its own kinda thing."

One of the most criticized aspects of the X-Men franchise is the number of continuity issues, and while an excellent film, First Class didn't really help in that area. When asked if Days Of Future Past will be a reset of sorts for the series, Singer lets slip that, "I'll be able to correct a few things." Be sure to stay tuned to CBM for even more news on the film.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Anna Paquin and Shawn Ashmore. The film is set to hit theaters July 18th, 2014.

DukeAcureds - 2/14/2013, 2:33 PM
So excited. Could be really good.
DioFoRio - 2/14/2013, 2:34 PM
it had to be a giant reset button or it would just [frick] them in their continuity hole even harder, leaving giant hemmorhidic bleeding plot holes
LordoftheThrones26 - 2/14/2013, 2:38 PM
What character is Peter Dinklage playing?
95 - 2/14/2013, 2:39 PM
Oh, boy do you have a lot of things to correct.
JDUKE25 - 2/14/2013, 2:39 PM
Oh PLEASE just throw out The Last Stand, and about half of the other crap that was filmed.
JDUKE25 - 2/14/2013, 2:41 PM
Cyclops better f***in be back....
Jollem - 2/14/2013, 2:41 PM
haters are gonna be very surprised
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/14/2013, 2:42 PM
New Characters:APOCALYPSE!!!!
Spideyguy94 - 2/14/2013, 2:43 PM
@JDUKE Amen to that. Cyclops is my favourite x-men character and considering he's the f*cking leader of the team, the treatment he's got in live action is appalling.
thefirstavenger97 - 2/14/2013, 2:44 PM
Well now you have my attention.
Paragon79 - 2/14/2013, 2:44 PM
That's what I figured he'd do. And why would he shut up? Why wouldn't you use the social media outlets to keep a buzz about your future movie? If I was making a movie, I'd be a total media whore.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/14/2013, 2:45 PM
Can't nobody predict that this movie will be good or bad.The only thing you can do is sit back and wait.Like I've said, this movie has my attention and curiousity.
masterhater - 2/14/2013, 2:45 PM
Of course. First class was awesome and all of his movies sucked so he has to xmen back to sucking.
xeno - 2/14/2013, 2:47 PM
Will the reset include better costumes, well-staged action set pieces, characters whose powers match the comics and aren't toned down to fit the budget, less of Wolverine monopolizing screen time, decent special effects, real Sentinels....If not, don't even bother.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/14/2013, 2:49 PM
"I'll be able to correct a few things".

Sounds interesting.
DukeAcureds - 2/14/2013, 2:54 PM
Scott and Jean better be introduced into the '60s/'70s era X-Men. An it'd be even more of a crowd-pleaser if Scott was older than Havok. No need to throw Bobby and Warren into the First Class tam, just yet. As long as we get Scott and Jean, then it's all gravy, baby.
santoanderson - 2/14/2013, 2:57 PM
Suck it Ratner.
ahhmynuts - 2/14/2013, 2:58 PM

there is a ton of shit to sort out continuity wise, another fault with the x-men movies too much magneto as the main villain.

the x-men have loads of great villains which haven't been used.

-the phalanx
-the purifiers
-the dark riders

ATrueHero1987 - 2/14/2013, 3:03 PM
If it corrects the mistakes, then I'm even more interested in this movie!
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/14/2013, 3:04 PM
@Mercwitham0uth You're on a roll today!
LFANCH - 2/14/2013, 3:04 PM
introducing cyclops in the first class era would be another continuity error though. He was in high school in Origins, which is in the 80's
MisterMagurlypse - 2/14/2013, 3:05 PM
Let's hope so. The first two X flims are very good. As was Magneto Begins, aka First Class, so I hope he can straighten this clusterfrick up!
MJPETTY7 - 2/14/2013, 3:05 PM
Save Scott and Jean's dignity...
ATrueHero1987 - 2/14/2013, 3:05 PM
Honestly, after X-Men: Origins: Wolverine, they should've rebooted the franchise but oh well....
Superguy15 - 2/14/2013, 3:10 PM
@Marvel87
FIRST CLASS could have worked very well as a reboot
Talon1024 - 2/14/2013, 3:11 PM
Note to Superhero Movie Make writers "Hmm if there were someplace we could Find a story line, with character development?" Read the COMICS you Stupid MutherFrickn SOBs and Stop reinventing our Heros!
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/14/2013, 3:14 PM
@Marvel87 I didn't get a chance yesterday to respond to you about New Avengers #3.The part where Cap used the Infinity Gauntlet was badass.I was shocked to see the Gauntlet gems get destroyed.Namor punching Steve was a WHOA moment too but the end where Tony gives Dr. Strange the orders to magically knock Steve out and wipe his mind of those events at the end was a shocker. If the Illuminati destroy that planet it's going to come back and bite them in the ass and I bet Cap finds out what they did to him.New Avengers is getting good.
Ocelot - 2/14/2013, 3:17 PM
should be excited, but I cant as it's gonna be another wolverine and friends movie, sigh
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/14/2013, 3:19 PM
@marvel72 You forgot Stryfe and the Mutant Liberation Front. There are a lot more villains that can be named too.
sparkadv - 2/14/2013, 3:20 PM
I almost never use "CAPS"...But when I do ... It's to say..."JUST SHUT UP AND MAKE A GOOD MOVIE!! Why don't you get a clue from Mr. Snyder and just do your job quietly. Talk is cheap...and I remember you saying the same pumped up things about Superman Returns... no offense but your are much better with drama/thriller than action.
TruBeliever - 2/14/2013, 3:21 PM
Make Apocalypse the main baddie in the future. Have an "older" Logan, Cable, Bishop and the remainging "heroes" making their Last Stand (pun intended) They find out that Apocalypse changed the time stream (past craptastic Xmen films) to ensure that key mutants died so he could rule. Cable goes back in time to set the time stream correct to the continuum we all know and love. Please bearded person that lives in the clouds help Singer fix this hot mess of a franchise.
sKeemAn - 2/14/2013, 3:21 PM
Am I the only one getting sick of his constant ranting. All this talking he better be able to deliver
TheBloodCrow - 2/14/2013, 3:22 PM
X2 and First Class have been the best of the X-Men films, BUT it's still a FOX movie so expect a turd with sprinkles on it
Shadowelfz - 2/14/2013, 3:23 PM
Good. Fix the shit you and the other assholes broke.
TheBloodCrow - 2/14/2013, 3:23 PM
it's not saying much, but it's like the sh!t you took last night is better than the sh!t you took the day before.
marvel72 - 2/14/2013, 3:23 PM
@ marvelpsycho79

of course i just didn't want to take up the whole comment section with my list.

i also wished fox expanded their x-universe with movies of x-factor,x-force & excalibur.

marvel72 - 2/14/2013, 3:29 PM
@ jcameron

it not the truth or fact, its your opinion that is all.
beane2099 - 2/14/2013, 3:32 PM
I don't think the general movie going audience cares about the continuity issues with these movies as much as we (the comic fans) are. Honestly, I've kind of stopped caring myself. X3 came out, what, 7 years ago? First Class came out two years ago? I kind of have a "whatever" mentality to it. If WB made a new GL that they said was a direct sequel to GL and yet it contradicted everything in the first one, I'd care just as much.
megabatfan - 2/14/2013, 3:40 PM
Still don't see how some issues are gonna be corrected.
- Emma Frost (X-FC) can be passed off as a different character from Emma (XO-W)
- But what about Moira? She & Prof X are about the same age in X-FC, and 40 years later Prof X is in his 60's while Moira is in her 40s.
Guess they're just gonna ignore that. Can't wait to see how they explain Prof X losing his ability to walk in X-FC (early 60s), yet walking in XO-W & X3 (both set about in the early 80s)
