RUMOR: David S. Goyer Hired To Write MAN OF STEEL Sequel

With Warner Bros.' plans for a Justice League film looking uncertain, the studio is rumored to be accelerating development on a sequel to this summer's Man Of Steel with David S. Goyer back on board to pen the script.

It was recently reported that reaction to early Man Of Steel screenings have been very positive, with some even calling the Zack Snyder-directed Superman reboot the best movie of the year. Assuming that the film is a big hit for Warner Bros., it would make perfect sense that the studio would release a follow-up shortly afterwards. A Justice League film has been in development, but with screenwriter Will Beall's script reportedly scrapped, the DC Comics ensemble's future is currently unknown. However, according to Think Mcfly Think, WB is accelerating development on a direct sequel to Man Of Steel. David S. Goyer, who wrote the script for the first film, is said to be on board for the follow-up. As for Justice League, some rumblings claim that it's still a priority, while others say that it's now on hold. Keep in mind that none of this has been officially confirmed, and could very well be false. Stay tuned to CBM for more news as we have it.

Man Of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne and Russell Crowe. The film is set to hit theaters June 14th, 2013.

I would love to see the next one deal with Lex Luthor and Brainiac. It is about time Lex gets to be shown like he is in the comics and not the dumb idiot like in the past Superman films.
95 - 2/28/2013, 11:33 AM
Good. I like Goyer.
Spideyguy94 - 2/28/2013, 11:40 AM
Goyer is very hit and miss, he's usually good when he's with someone competent I.e. Nolan, del toro. But when he's on his own he's bad.
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 11:43 AM
Good, this will most likey make budget in weekend one and if Goyer can be inspired to write a sequel that's as good this one looks...

Good job, WB! First good thing you've done for Superman in a while...
Dynamo - 2/28/2013, 11:45 AM
I'd say Parasite and Lex Luthor. Save Brianiac for the 3rd film. Especially if they already deal with an alien invasion in the first.
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 11:46 AM
@ Spideyguy94 - True, let's hope Nolan stays on to reign both those clowns in.

Snyder too, someone needs to ground him.
Valandil - 2/28/2013, 11:49 AM
Great, keep focus on this and forget shitty plans for Justice League.
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 11:50 AM
@ Dynamo - Me, personally, I'd like to see Superman face off against the Elite in a Live Action adaption of "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?"
95 - 2/28/2013, 11:52 AM
Metallo!
Wingding - 2/28/2013, 11:54 AM
Can't wait for MOS
JorL5150 - 2/28/2013, 11:54 AM
you know how people say that superman is "too powerful" or somehow he is LESS interesting because of all his powers?

i never agreed with that. EVER. it's like the OPPOSITE. all those powers is AWESOME.

it would be like a guy complaining that his girlfriend was "too hot".
imagine a guy, who says: " my girlfriend- i just can't relate...she is beautiful- gorgeous face, lovely hair, mesmerizing eyes, stunning body- AND - she's smart! ...uuuggghh... i want to dump her and go out with a dumb skank so i can 'relate' better".

dumb@$$e$.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/28/2013, 11:55 AM
I agree with Spideyguy94.Goyer is best when he has someone competent and has a clear vision with him.Blade Trinity and Ghost Rider:SOV are perfect examples of why he should not write scripts alone.I would also like to see a comic book inspired version of Lex Luthor in the sequel, just not as the main villain.Save Lex and his super suit for MOS 3.I would like to see Brainiac in MOS 2 but he would be too close to Zod,another threat from Krypton.
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 11:55 AM
yeah a Sequel..i don't want him to be the villain but have Lex Luthor as a character in Man of Steel 2..along with Supergirl..
JorL5150 - 2/28/2013, 11:55 AM
this is probably not even a "rumor"- just an easy speculation. ANY tentpole film is going to have a sequel considered if it makes enough $$$. and goyer/nolan probably had a treatment in place for more films when they turned in the MOS script.
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 11:56 AM
I think Snyder's style is well suited for "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?" because of the desaturation he often implements in his films can make for a very dark world.

Plus, both him and Goyer have both expressed their desire to knock Supes of the stool and drag him through the mud and no other story does that as well as Action Comics 775.
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 11:58 AM
Guys...what would you like to see..

Superboy

or

Supergirl?
gambgel - 2/28/2013, 11:58 AM
if true, great!

Superman sequel on 2016
Justice League 2017
JorL5150 - 2/28/2013, 11:58 AM
@JAKE-

action #775 would be an excellent basis for a superman movie. i think there was a follow-up to it as well.

also- i'd do anything for a combination of the 90's "warworld/EXILE" storyline and the classic "for the man who has everything" by alan moore.

that'd be AWESOME.
ATrueHero1987 - 2/28/2013, 11:58 AM
I want a JL movie but I rather see Wonder Woman & The Flash in solo movies first.
JorL5150 - 2/28/2013, 11:59 AM
@ malcopunch

BOTH!!!

supergirl could be tied into BRAINIAC (like the superb geoff johns story)
and superboy could be connected to lex luthors superman-clone/bizzaro experiments.
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 12:00 PM
Mongul would make a great villain and he can easily be in the Plot..
Durf - 2/28/2013, 12:00 PM
Well if MOS is good and he helped write it, this would make sense.

@79: How about Parasite, Live Wire, or Mongul for the villain?
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 12:01 PM
Mongul with Warworld = Bigger Threat than Zod
RMN666 - 2/28/2013, 12:01 PM
@ Dynamo In general I think superman is going to be mainly fighting alien invaders especially in the movies.
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 12:02 PM
Oh, and if they use the Elite the title is simple...

World without a Superman.

@ Malcopunch - Nah, no Supergirl. I want to see Superman struggle, and both Kara and Clark are more intresting by themselves. Together, they no fun.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/28/2013, 12:03 PM
@Durf Mongul would be a great villain.
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 12:04 PM
Is there any villain Superman can't defeat? (Expect maybe the Anti-Monitor)
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 12:06 PM
@ JorL5150 - "For the man who has everything" would be great as a Justice League movie sequel, but as a Superman tale?

Nahhh, keep in mind Supes only does stuff at the end of that book, it would get boring watching him just stand there.
JerBear - 2/28/2013, 12:07 PM
@JorL5150
Honestly, I wouldn't want to go out with a girl that's "too hot." That would be pretty overwhelming. Flaws are attractive to me.
Durf - 2/28/2013, 12:07 PM
@79: yeah I think he would be pretty awesome. It would be another one Supes would have to actually work to defeat
gurugeorge - 2/28/2013, 12:09 PM
I hope to God they scale back the stupid in these Superman films. He's so long been a sort of hard infinite trump card (NOBODY is more powerful than Superman); but he wasn't that originally, he just got inflated as DC competitively gave him the same powers as every other superhero coming out over the years. But when an entity is that all-powerful, the concept of challenge and conflict just becomes a joke (and even Kryptonite can't save him, because that just becomes stupidly repetitive too) and the whole thing just becomes a snoozefest (unless Grant Morrison handles it :) ).

But I do have high hopes for the film. It looks like a great team, and the trailers have been beautiful (e.g. best implementation of super-flight I've ever seen in a superhero film).

Fingers and toes crossed! It's great how all the superhero films coming out are raising the quality bar higher and higher - great for all of us who are fans of the superhero/s-f mythos as the real modern mythology.
fettastic - 2/28/2013, 12:11 PM
We think, maybe, possibly something might be happening, but some people think that maybe perhaps nothing is happening, or maybe something else is happening entirely.

Stay tuned for more breaking news!
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 12:12 PM
@ Malcopunch - Silly question, every hero can beat every villain. Batman outsmarted Darkseid before, but Batman only has an IQ of 216. Darkseid is a god.

Heroes are supposed to beat villains.
InfiniteMonkey - 2/28/2013, 12:12 PM
Nah, BS.
I like their enthusiasm but they have none where it should be and that's a Super Fr-...check that Justice League movie.

They are way behind and they should focus on individual movies first.

StrangerX - 2/28/2013, 12:12 PM
Goyer is DC's guy. I don't see why they wouldn't have him in there on the sequel.
Optimus83 - 2/28/2013, 12:12 PM

Christopher Meloni as Lex Luthor

says my spider-sense, and usually not wrong
fettastic - 2/28/2013, 12:13 PM
I would be surprised if WB DIDN'T have Goyer working on a follow-up script.
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 12:13 PM
I got a idea for the villain:

Lex Luthor asks Amanda Waller..to get rid of Superman because he knows that soon he going to find out about his corrupt dealing. Amanda needing the money to fund the Cadmus Project agrees..and creates a team called the The Elite to talk out Superman:

Manchester Black (Leader of the Team

Metallo (A Half Robot-Human Hybrid..Second in Command )

Kon-El ( Clone of Superman created to kill Superman. Later becomes good and turns on the Elite )

Livewire

Neutron

Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 12:15 PM
I think the Elite would work as long as it had known villains expect from Manchester Black
fettastic - 2/28/2013, 12:15 PM
As for what a sequel should entail, Brainiac is LONG overdue. Man of Steel will be the 6th (7th if you count Mole People) big screen adventure that does not include what is probably Superman's second most popular nemesis.
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 12:16 PM
Manchester Black,Metallo,Kon-El,Livewire,Neutron would work great as the Elite

crashrendar - 2/28/2013, 12:17 PM
Everyone complains that goyer sucks, yet these are the same people who say that batman begins was the best and tdk and tdkr were awful...don't they know that goyer wrote begins, and most of what we saw was what he wrote?
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 2/28/2013, 12:17 PM
He musttt.... He must.
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 12:18 PM
Brainaic would be cool but leave him for the 3rd movie..or make Brainaic disgusted as Lena Luthor. Brainaic disgusted himself because of a secret deal between him and Lutho and introduce Brainaic as the man villain in the 3rd movie
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 12:19 PM
That's how i think Brainaic should work in the MOS Trilogy
SotoJuiceMan - 2/28/2013, 12:20 PM
I've ready Goyer's scripts and I gotta say he is pretty damn good. Besides, his scripts had led Warner Bros. films go over the 1 billion mark, twice. Yea I'd hire for the sequel again too.
Optimus83 - 2/28/2013, 12:20 PM
the main two supervillians in the sequel:

Christopher Meloni as Lex Luthor

says my spider-sense, and usually not wrong
Malcopunch - 2/28/2013, 12:21 PM
I expect we could see characters like Batman appear in MOS 2..Wait how about they make MOS2 a Superman/Batman Movie..that would work..
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 12:23 PM
Christopher Meloni is Colonel Hardy.
Morpheus82 - 2/28/2013, 12:38 PM
Goyer is definitely one of the worlds most talented writers of all time, and an excellent choice for Justice league.
